Forest springs, beech forest and a nature trail along the Fryštácký potok give Lukoveček a close connection to nature; local history and recurring traditions complete the picture. Outdoor options range from a path about one kilometre long to a 40-kilometre cycle route. Fossils, a sports complex and events held at different times of the year are also among the local highlights. This gives you a basis for deciding whether to focus your stay on nature, exercise, history or a particular event date.
Nature and trails around Lukoveček
The Pod Obecním kopcem Natural Monument lies within the cadastral area of Lukoveček and protects forest tufa springs. It is located about 3.3 km northeast of Lukoveček, at an elevation of 480 to 565 m. Species-rich beech forest communities dominate the woodland; several forest springs are also part of this natural area. The Ondřejovsko Natural Monument is also within the cadastral area of Lukoveček.
Fossils have been found near Lukoveček in the limestone known as Dubové hory. North of the village is a disused sandstone quarry, designated a significant landscape feature in 2004. Together with the beech forest and springs, these sites offer several points of interest for anyone interested in geology and landscape.
The approximately 1 km-long nature trail starts at the bridge at the place called “Pod dědinů” and runs upstream along the Fryštácký potok from the village centre. It has four information boards. A 40 km cycle route passes through Holešov, Lukoveček, Fryšták, Březová, Rusava, Lukoveček and Velká Bystřice. The two routes offer different options: a short stretch along the stream and a considerably longer cycle route.
Local history and traditions
The chapel in the centre of Lukoveček was built in 1879; the new chapel was solemnly consecrated on 21 September 1884. The monument to T. G. Masaryk, the first Czechoslovak president, stands near the chapel. It was erected in 1932 and unveiled again in 1945. These dates give the local memorials a specific historical context.
The Končinová tradition, which is regularly upheld, includes a carnival procession led by a shaggy bear and the symbolic burial of the double bass. A slivovitz tasting is regularly held around the turn of February and March. At the also regularly held “Dračky a mašlovačky,” visitors can try traditional crafts; arrangements for taking part may vary. The “Festiválek na Kopečku” takes place around the turn of July and August and focuses on folk and country music. If you plan to attend a particular festival, check the event date in advance.
Sports and play
The multi-purpose sports complex in Lukoveček includes an artificial turf pitch for football, nohejbal, volleyball and basketball. The complex also has a children’s play area with a rope pyramid, swings, toddler seesaws and a slide with a tower. Facilities may change; check the current details before your visit.
