Lipovec lies on the edge of the Moravian Karst, where the karst region meets the Drahanská vrchovina highlands. You can explore the village from different perspectives: churches and lime kilns tell its story, while Černá skála highlights protected nature and geological features. Cycling and hiking trails, along with activities at the Velká Dohoda site, add practical options for active excursions.

Church and Local History

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built between 1828 and 1842 and consecrated on September 8, 1843. It was built without a tower; a small tower structure was added to the roof only in 1921. The same building therefore reflects two distinct phases of construction. The year 1349 is another important milestone in Lipovec’s history: it is the year of the village’s first written mention.

Two other historical landmarks stand in front of the church. The cross was erected in 1852 by farmers and carters from Lipovec who transported charcoal to Adamov. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk also stands in front of the church. It was made anew in 1816 and moved to its current location in 1975.

An archaeological site points to an unknown, vanished medieval settlement. Archaeological finds date its existence from the second half of the 13th century to the beginning of the 16th century. Lipovec thus brings together different historical perspectives: the village’s written record, traces of an earlier settlement, and later buildings and memorials.

Lime Kilns and Events

Lime burning is also part of the village’s history. Velká Dohoda was established in 1928 and operated until 1979. The remains of the Vrchničákova lime kiln have been preserved; Vodákova is the second of the two surviving lime kilns.

The Sokolovna hosts a range of events, including Easter and Christmas exhibitions and performances by local artists. The Spolek Vápeníček’s traditional Easter exhibition was scheduled to take place there on March 21, 2026. Another local tradition is tasting slivovice and slivovice liqueur: the 20th edition took place on February 15, 2025, and another tasting was listed for February 7, 2026.

Černá skála: Habitat and Geology

Černá skála protects a particularly valuable habitat for amphibians. The presence and reproduction of several specially protected animal species have been confirmed there. At its core, the protected area comprises a pond at the bottom of an old quarry with Culmian shales; it lies within the built-up area of the municipality of Lipovec. Here, nature and the village are closely connected.

The rocks also make Černá skála noteworthy: siltstones and fine-grained greywackes of the Rozstáň Formation are exposed in an abandoned quarry. The pond, Culmian shales, and these other rock types illustrate different aspects of the area. Visitors interested in landscape and nature will therefore find not only an amphibian habitat here, but also a point of geological interest.

Trails and Activities

A cycling route junction in Lipovec provides access to practically all the surrounding municipalities. Check the cycling route details before setting out. A route description last updated in 2017 also lists a green-marked hiking trail: it starts in the resort village of Jedovnice, passes through Senetářov and the Zálomí trail junction, then goes by the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Lipovec. It continues to the Velká Dohoda site and ends in Suchý žleb at Kalvodův kříž. Before hiking, also check the route against current information.

The Velká Dohoda site has practice via ferrata routes, or protected climbing routes, measuring 150 metres in length. You can climb a 15-metre-high limestone wall; the necessary equipment and an instructor are available. The rope park is laid out across ten poles and includes ten high and seven low obstacles. It is suitable for children and adults. The site therefore offers a choice of specific activities, from protected routes to a rope park.
