At Olšovec Pond, water, activity and fishing come together in Jedovnice: the SINGLETRAIL Moravský kras base is right by the pond, the beach offers boats and pedal boats, and you can watch the fish harvest from the observation bastion. There are also hiking trails and the Church of St Peter and Paul. If you’re looking for a hotel in Jedovnice, consider whether Olšovec, nearby trails or local history will be the main focus of your stay.

By Olšovec: Water and Trail

Olšovec Pond covers 42 hectares. Its dam is eight metres high and 640 metres long along the crest. The SINGLETRAIL Moravský kras has its base directly by Olšovec in Jedovnice. This places the starting point for the trail facilities right by the pond; operating details may change. Check them in advance if the trail will shape your stay.

The beach has a boat and pedal-boat rental service, as well as slides. These seasonal facilities may change. From the observation bastion, visitors can watch the fish harvest at Olšovec and see the fishermen at work. If either is the reason for your trip, check the latest seasonal information or the date and schedule of the fish harvest in advance. This helps distinguish between two different ways to enjoy the pond: the facilities at the beach and watching a specific fishing operation.

On Foot: Trails and Historic Sites

The Rudické propadání and Kolíbky route can be started directly from Jedovnice via the green-marked hiking trail. It passes the remains of the former Salmová ironworks, which dates back to the 18th century and processed iron ore. This route therefore combines a specifically named hiking trail with a historic trace of the area’s former iron processing.

A similar name also refers to the Rudické propadání–Býčí skála cave system. Near Jedovnice, the Jedovnický stream forms this cave system, which is described as the second largest in the Moravian Karst. To help you find your way, note the distinction: Rudické propadání and Kolíbky is the route that can be started from Jedovnice; Rudické propadání–Býčí skála is the name of the cave system.

The areas around Budkovan and Dubový ponds are recommended for walks in the surrounding countryside. This gives you two different options: a specifically named, green-marked hiking route and walks around two ponds. Choose according to whether you’d rather follow a named trail or take a walk around one of the ponds mentioned.

Church of St Peter and Paul: Building History and Art

The present-day Church of St Peter and Paul was built between 1783 and 1785. However, the foundations of its tower date back to 1681. These dates mark two different points in the history of the same building: the construction of the present-day church and the older tower foundations.

Outside of service times, visits can be arranged by agreement with the parish administrator. The church houses an altar by Mikuláš Medek and Jan Koblasa; the artistic interior design dates from the 1960s. The church thus brings together architectural history from the 17th and 18th centuries and an artistic feature from a much later period.
