Spešov lies in a valley on the right bank of the Svitava and along a stream. The village is also at the foot of Kešůvka, a spur of the Hořické kopce. Blansko is 4 km away; Spešov lies on the edge of the Moravský kras. Here, the immediate river and stream landscape, the slopes of Kešůvka and the wider karst region come together in one place.

Lookout Tower and Landscape

Spešov’s lookout tower combines traditions of carpentry and metalworking with municipal symbols and historical elements. It also invites visitors to spend a short time enjoying views of a varied, undulating landscape. The tower thus brings together two different interests: you can admire the design of the structure or take in the surrounding landscape. Both are part of the brief visit the lookout tower invites you to make.

Local History and Traces in the Landscape

Adits from the former iron ore mines are still visible on Spešov’s western slopes. In the Vápno area, Tertiary shell limestone contains numerous fossils. The adits point to the area’s former ore mining, while Vápno offers a geological perspective on the village. Another historical reminder is Spešov’s chapel, built in 1856 in remembrance of the town’s deliverance from cholera. The mines, fossils and chapel represent different aspects of local history and landscape. The “Po stopách starých ovocných stromů” educational trail introduces some of the most common local fruit tree varieties. Check the condition of the trail locally before your visit.

Facilities and Outdoor Swimming Pool

Local facilities include a swimming pool, a volleyball court, a beach volleyball court and a children’s play area. Seasonal opening hours are listed for the outdoor pool: in June, it is open Monday to Friday from 2 pm to 8 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 8 pm. In July and August, it is open daily from 9 am to 8 pm. The hours therefore differ between weekdays and weekends in June, while the same opening hours apply every day in July and August. As seasonal opening hours may change, check the current times before your visit.

The Wider Moravský kras Region

The Moravský kras is one of the most significant karst regions in Central Europe. More than 1,100 caves are known throughout the area, five of which are open to the public. In the Punkevní Caves, you can take a boat trip on the underground Punkva River; this is combined with a visit to the bottom of the Macocha Gorge. The caves offer a different perspective on the region from Spešov’s lookout tower, chapel and mining traces. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish between local landscape and history attractions and the wider karst region.
