Kozárov lies on the western slope of Babylon Hill in hilly terrain; far-reaching views are part of the local landscape. There are several different focal points to consider when choosing your destination: the landscape, the 19-kilometre “Z KOZÁROVA NA KRKATOU BÁBU” route, the views from Rozhledna Babylon, or local culture. This makes it easy to plan whether you would rather focus on a longer tour, a viewpoint, or the chapel and festivals.
Landscape and Distant Views
A considerable part of Kozárov’s cadastral area lies within Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. Together with the western slope of Babylon Hill, the hilly terrain and the far-reaching views, this gives the area a distinctive landscape. The hillside setting and distant views describe the village’s location, while its connection to the nature park applies to a considerable part of its cadastral area.
In clear weather, the Jeseníky Mountains, including Praděd, can be seen to the northeast from Rozhledna Babylon, and the hills of Pálava to the south. In addition to the views, the site has refreshment facilities, toilets and a covered shelter for about 100 people. As the facilities may change depending on operations, it is advisable to check their current availability before your visit.
A Route with Two Endpoints
The “Z KOZÁROVA NA KRKATOU BÁBU” route is 19 km long and starts at the Kozárov bus stop. It ends in Újezd u Černé Hory; part of the route can be cycled. The distance, cycling option and endpoints provide different reference points for planning: cycling is possible only on one section, while the start and finish are in different places. Be sure to include both locations in your route planning.
Chapel, Crosses and Festival Culture
There are four crosses along the roads leading to Kozárov. The Chapel of St Anne was consecrated. Its construction was planned in memory of a tragedy and in honour of its patron saint; a statue of St Anne was also planned. The crosses and the chapel provide specific local points of reference for the cultural side of a stay.
A procession is held in Kozárov for Masopust. The St Anne’s pilgrimage includes a pre-pilgrimage celebration and a pilgrimage celebration. At the Zabíjačka at Rozhledna, you can sample traditional pig-slaughter specialities. Krojované hody includes a celebration, an Ortel and a traditional dish as part of the ram ritual. The chapel and crosses are lasting points of reference; the festivals provide specific occasions. If you choose one of them as a reason for your trip, check the dates in advance.
Plan Your Journey
Kozárov has a regular bus service and can be reached by car throughout the year. These are two different travel options: bus and car. Check the latest transport details before your trip, before deciding on a specific connection or arrival time.
