Olomučany lies in hilly terrain on the northwestern edge of the Drahanská vrchovina and on the boundary of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. A large part of its cadastral area is covered by mixed forests. Forests, springs and historic sites give your trip several distinct focal points: you can focus on trails and nature or add individual cultural destinations.

Forest Trails, Springs and Cycling Tours

Hiking and cycling routes around Olomučany connect directly to trails leading into and out of the Moravian Karst. Almost all the springs in the area can be reached on foot or by bicycle and are popular destinations for day trips. Check local trail conditions when planning your outing.

The Lesnický Slavín landscape feature includes numerous forest springs, most of which have been restored and are well maintained. A well-kept forest park surrounds the U srnce spring. These different spring sites give you more than one possible stop for a nature-focused itinerary, without having to fit them all into a single outing.

The Máchův památník is located roughly in the middle of Lesnický Slavín. It stands at an elevation of 508 metres; in good visibility, the view reaches the Pálava Hills and the nearest peaks of the Austrian Alps. If you would like to explore the area by bicycle, the “Cyklovýlet ve stínu Kojálu” cycling tour is another option: it is suitable for mountain bikes, e-bikes, gravel bikes, trekking bikes and road bikes.

Castle Ruins and the History of Olomučany

The ruins of Čertův hrádek and Nový hrad lie within the cadastral area of Olomučany. Čertův hrádek protects an important geological and geomorphological formation as well as remnants of natural fir-beech stands. Nový hrad is a significant castle complex that has been continuously used for different purposes since the 14th century. Together, the two sites bring together visible castle history and the area’s distinctive natural and landscape history.

There are also points of historical interest in the village itself. The Kostel Božského Srdce Páně church was built in 1939–1940. Another part of local history is Olomučany pottery, which was produced in the municipality in the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. A permanent exhibition about it is housed in the municipal office. Visits are possible by arrangement with the municipal office; confirm the date before your visit.

Summer Activities and Getting There

During the summer months, the Bahňák recreation area offers swimming and light refreshments. As these facilities are seasonal, check current opening information before travelling. This makes it easy to distinguish a summer swimming stop from the forest and cultural themes that can shape other kinds of stays.

Olomučany can be reached by bus from Blansko, 4 km away. The Brno–Česká Třebová railway corridor also passes through Blansko. If you are planning to travel by public transport, check the timetables for your travel date. This lets you include the connection via Blansko in your plans without assuming a particular departure time.

Olomučany offers specific connections to nature, culture and transport, without prescribing a single itinerary for every trip.
