Alexandrova Lookout Tower stands on Špičák above Adamov. In Adamov itself, the Church of St. Barbara and the Světelský Altar form a religious focal point; in the western part of the Křtinský Valley, Františčina huť represents a distinct chapter in industrial history. Panoramic views, church art, and ironworking provide different highlights for a trip to Adamov U Brna.

Lookout tower on Špičák

The 15-metre-high stone Alexandrova Lookout Tower replaced a wooden viewing pavilion in 1887. From there, you can see the Svitava Valley and the surrounding area. The change from a wooden pavilion to a stone tower also gives the viewpoint an architectural history: visitors interested in historic buildings as well as the landscape have a second point of interest here.

Church and the Světelský Altar

The Church of St. Barbara was built from 1855 to 1857 to a design by Viennese architect Josef Kieser. The Neo-Gothic church is 26 metres long and 10 metres wide. Its construction dates, architect, and dimensions give the church architecture concrete definition; the Světelský Altar also opens a window onto the history of religious art.

In 1857, the altar was gifted to the newly built church in Adamov. Today, its central section is in the church and depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The sequence of dates closely connects the building and its furnishings: the church was completed by 1857, and it received the altar in the same year. The history of the church and a specific religious image are thus linked in time.

Industrial history in the Křtinský Valley

Františčina huť, also known as Stará huť, is a cultural monument dating from the mid-18th century in the western part of the Křtinský Valley. It is the oldest blast furnace in Central Europe and also one of the best preserved. This adds a distinct focus on industrial history to the Neo-Gothic church architecture and religious art. Those interested in the history of ironworking will find a different subject here than at the lookout tower or in the church.

The site is occasionally used for experimental and demonstration smelts in replicas of Slavic iron furnaces. These smelts do not follow a fixed schedule. If you would like to include a demonstration in your plans, check in advance whether one is scheduled.

Planning cycling routes and walks

Cycle Route 5077 runs through the Křtinský Valley to Josefov and on to Jedovnice. This provides a named way to explore the valley by bike in addition to visiting its cultural and historical sights. Check the route, signage, and conditions locally before relying on the route details.

Two walking routes have different starting points. The easiest way from Adamov to Alexandrova Lookout Tower is from Sedmi dubů, following the green-marked trail. From Adamov railway station, it is about a 15-minute walk to the Church of St. Barbara via the yellow-marked route and Osvobození Street. These details help you choose the right route based on your destination and starting point: an approximate walking time is given for the church, while the tower route is described as the easiest access from Adamov. Trail markings may change; local works may also affect the route description for the church. Check local information before setting out.
