You can get to know Kujavy through its landscapes, architectural history and local trails. The educational trail offers a manageable walking distance, while cultural monuments and a longer cycling route provide further options for planning your trip. You can start by choosing whether to focus on the time available for a walk, historical details or cycling.
Educational Trail and Landscape
The “Kujavská stezka poznání” is 4 km long and takes about 60 minutes to walk. This gives you both a route length and an approximate time to plan around. When weighing up your day’s itinerary, you can treat the educational trail as a walk of about an hour.
A distinctive landscape feature is the “Alej svobody´23”, a symbolic group of trees made up of 97 pear trees and 28 oaks. The trees were planted in 2023. Děrenský potok also shapes the local landscape: it forms the axis of the municipality of Kujavy and lies near the Poodří Protected Landscape Area.
The Kujavy plant herbarium is another local point of interest for those interested in plants. It documents almost all the plant species that can be seen in Kujavy. Together, the group of trees, stream and herbarium offer different insights into the local landscape and plant life.
Church and Local History
The present-day Church of St Michael was completed in the autumn of 1833 in the Empire style. It has been a cultural monument since 3 May 1958. The earliest written mention of Kujavy dates from 1293, well before the present-day church was completed. These dates point to two distinct periods in the town’s history: the early mention of Kujavy and the church’s construction history.
The building of the primary school in Kujavy also has a long history as a school: it was built in 1821 and has served as a school ever since. The war memorial is also significant to local remembrance. Its inscription reads “SEDMNÁCT RUDOARMĚJCŮ” and names Josef Beneš, Petr Liščinka, Alexandr Malý and Václav Kikal.
The war memorial stands at the intersection of the Fulnek–Bílovec road and the municipal road towards Hladké Životice and Pustějov. The area around it is maintained and planted with flowers; its appearance may change over time. A stone cross stands on the boundary between Kujavy and Stachovice, beside a solitary chestnut tree.
Cycling Route and Events
The 37 km cycling tour “K Bíloveckému větrnému mlýnu” reaches Kujavy as its fourth stop, at the Church of St Michael. Alongside the educational trail, with its approximate walking time, this gives you a cycling route with a stated total distance. The two figures help you factor different ways of getting around into your travel plans.
Together with municipalities in the Poodří region, Kujavy uses the tourism app “Na kole i pěšky”. It offers maps, guides, cycling routes, sights and trip tips. If you would like to use the app for navigation, check that it is available before your trip.
The municipality organizes various events together with local associations; these include the Day of the Municipality (Den obce) as part of the cultural programme. If an event is to determine when you travel, check the current dates before making plans.
