For a trip to Bítov, marked trails, local history and a forested landscape come together. The differences between the cycling route and hiking trail can help you choose an excursion; the chapel, pond landscape and local traditions add further points of interest. This way, you can decide in advance whether you want your stay to focus on activity, history or scenery.
The Chapel and Local History
The central Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was built before 1880. Mass is celebrated there once a month. The building’s construction date and monthly Mass connect its history with a recurring religious occasion. The former fortified settlement is also part of the area’s history: it was located within the cadastral area of Bítov. Based on the place name Hradisko, its location is thought to have been between the village and the former Bítov Mill, but this has not been established with certainty.
Cycling and Hiking
For cyclists, the more demanding, partly difficult Route 6192 passes through Bítov, connecting Bílovec with a recreation area on the Porubka. The Bílovecká padesátka hiking route, by contrast, follows the yellow-marked trail from the chapel below Bítov, through the village and on to Údolí Seziny. Different details matter when planning: for the cycling route, take its partly difficult character into account, while for hiking, the trail markings and route sequence provide guidance. This makes it possible to compare the options by activity and route.
Forest Landscape and Ponds
Forests surround Bítov on almost all sides and offer good conditions for mushroom picking and gathering wild fruit. At the site of Bítovský mlýn and immediately below it is a partly waterlogged, densely vegetated area that functions as a local biocentre or biocorridor. In Vesník, the so-called I. Pond is the second pond in a cascade of four. These offer different ways to experience the landscape: the forest setting, a waterlogged area with a local ecological function, and part of the pond cascade.
Festivals and Traditions
Rybí hody is a recurring local festival held in Vesník near Bítov. If you would like to time your visit to coincide with an event, check the specific date in advance. In Bítov, frying eggs is locally called “snožky” and is a tradition passed down by parents and grandparents. These are two different forms of local custom: a recurring festival in Vesník and an egg-frying tradition handed down through generations.
Getting There by Bus
Regional bus route 884692 runs via Bílovec, Bítov, Těškovice and Slatina, then returns to Bílovec. Check the timetable in advance for a specific journey.
