Miletin brings together cultural history and a clearly themed nature trail. The Muzeum českého amatérského divadla is dedicated to the Czech amateur theatre tradition, while historic sites and works of art offer further ways to explore the town’s history. For an active exploration, the Naučná stezka K. J. Erbena offers views of Podzvičinsko; its nine checkpoints and its design for both adults and children give the trail its distinctive character.
A nature trail with views of the landscape
The Naučná stezka K. J. Erbena is designed as an entertaining and educational trail for adults and children. It is divided into nine checkpoints, and the route offers beautiful views of Podzvičinsko. Miletínské lázně is also one of the stops. In contrast to a museum visit, the focus here is on walking between the stops and taking in the landscape. The trail therefore offers a different way to explore than learning about theatre history in the museum.
Amateur theatre to see and try
The Muzeum českého amatérského divadla displays a collection of painted stage curtains. Visitors can step onto the stage and try out a theatre’s basic technical equipment. At the same time, the exhibition traces the development of Czech amateur theatre: from the fundamental sources of folk theatre and the National Revival, through the heyday of amateur theatre around the turn of the 20th century, to amateur theatre today.
Here, tangible exhibits and an interactive experience sit alongside a broader historical narrative. The painted curtains draw attention to stage design, while the technical equipment offers insight into the practical side of running a theatre. The chronological account shows how amateur theatre has developed across several eras.
Monastery cellar and tower: different visiting options
Klášterní sklepení is the only surviving remnant of a ruined fortress and an abandoned monastery of the Teutonic Order. Two chambers carved into the rock are separated by stone Gothic portals. There are also brick-built, vaulted stairways and a narrow corridor leading towards a well. The interplay of rock chambers, portals and stairways shapes the site’s architectural character.
Miletínská věž was originally the eastern main gate of a monastery. In 1586, it was raised to three storeys. It is not open to the public; only on event days such as a fair or pilgrimage is it included in a tour of all the town’s sights. If you are planning such a tour, check in advance whether it is scheduled for the event day you have in mind.
Art, a church and local production
Epopej Miletína is an artistic interpretation of the first written mention of Miletin. Four symbolic milestones represent the town’s history. The 5.5-metre-high bronze sculpture is located in Na Parkáni Park. It offers another way to explore the town’s history, this time through art, using symbolic rather than architectural imagery.
Tourists and other visitors to Miletin visit the Church of the Annunciation during walks on the Naučná stezka K. J. Erbena. Free visits can be arranged by prior agreement. Check the visiting conditions before you arrive and arrange your visit in advance.
The production of Miletínské modlitbičky is also part of local tradition: after its restoration in 1991, Karel Erben resumed production using the original recipe and continues to this day. If you are specifically looking for the product or wish to buy it, check the current production and availability in advance.
