Protected wetlands, three ponds, and historic memorials give Jinolice a varied character. When planning your visit, it is worth considering the natural attractions and traces of local history separately: this helps you see which themes will shape your stay most.

Ponds and Protected Habitats

The Jinolické rybníky comprise a group of three ponds. The largest is Oborský. Above this pond lies the protected wetland Oborská luka, also known as Oborská louka. Both names refer to the same area.

Another point of interest is Rybník Vražda, which is designated a protected natural monument. The protected area around the pond preserves wet meadows with rare plants and animals. Those interested in landscapes and nature conservation will therefore find two distinct aspects here: the pond landscape and the preservation of special habitats.

Recreational activities are also a focus at the Jinolické rybníky. There are pleasant places to swim, camping opportunities, and other leisure activities. Specific conditions may vary by season, so check them before planning a visit for these purposes.

Plan Your Hike and Journey

Jinolice railway station is on the Turnov–Jičín line. If you are considering travelling by train, include the current timetable in your plans. A green-marked hiking route leads from the station via the Jinolické rybníky to the Prachovské skály. It is approximately 3.5 kilometres long. Trail markings may be updated, so check the current route before setting out.

The blue-marked hiking trail towards Jičín–Prachovské skály is indicated as an access route to the Brada castle site. Brada was an early Gothic castle that once stood near Přivýšina. The historical context and the trail connection offer two different ways to explore the site: the castle’s history and a specific hiking route.

Historic Traces in the Area

The local historic timber houses include the former mill at house no. 37, which is listed as local cultural heritage in Jinolice. The mill dates from the early 19th century. A masonry bell tower stands beneath a lime tree on the village green, by the municipal office.

The history of the Battle of Jičín on 29 June 1866 is also commemorated at several locations. In Jinolice, a cast-iron monument to those who fell in the battle stands by road I/35 between Jičín and Turnov. A helmet sits above its decorated cornice.

A war grave in the town centre commemorates 12 Austrian soldiers, 24 Prussian soldiers, and one officer who fell in the Battle of Jičín on 29 June 1866. Another war grave is located at Rybník Vražda in the Malá Jinolice district. It commemorates 92 soldiers who fell near Malá and Velká Jinolice on the same day. The two memorial sites therefore differ both in location and in the number of soldiers they commemorate.
