In the village square of Bukovina u Pecky stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, erected in 1734. Together with the blue-marked hiking trails, the cycling route and the landscape of Kamenná hůra, it gives visitors several specific points of interest to explore during their stay. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether to focus on the trails and elevated landscape or on the area’s historical traces.
Landscape Along the Ridge
Bukovina u Pecky lies close to the crest of Kamenná hůra, at an elevation of about 500 m. A forest belt on Kamenná hůra extends from west to south along the village and slopes down towards the Bělohrad Basin. The Kamenná hůra Nature Reserve lies on the southwestern slope of Kulatý vrch. This hill is part of a ridge that descends from Bukovina u Pecky towards the Javorka Valley near Dolní Javoří. For orientation, both the village’s position on the ridge and the wooded stretch and slope of the protected area are clearly identified.
Hiking and Views
A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Bukovina u Pecky. Krkonošská vyhlídka is about 1,500 m from the village; a field path along a blue-marked hiking route leads to it. The 532 m-high viewpoint can be reached from Pecka via a blue-marked trail as a 5 km circular route. When planning, note the different starting points: the approximate distance is from Bukovina u Pecky, while the circular route starts in Pecka. This makes it possible to consider a viewpoint near the village separately from a circular hike starting in Pecka.
Historical Traces
The route through Kamenná hůra follows the historic Horská cesta, associated with Kryštof Harant z Polžic a Bezdružic’s departure from Pecka Castle. Harant, who had been arrested, set off on 23 February 1621 accompanied by mercenaries. At Hrádek, between Vřesník and Bukovina u Pecky, a ditch cut into the rock and still preserved marks a former circular fortified site. The surrounding area is now used for agriculture. Written and literary traces are also part of the village’s history: Bukovina u Pecky is mentioned in written records as early as the late 13th century. The father of teacher and writer K. V. Rais was born here and spent his youth in house No. 12.
Cycling Route and Access
Cycling Route No. 4141 runs from Arnoštov (from Borovnice) through Bukovina u Pecky, continuing via Tetín to Vidonice. For hiking, the blue markings and field path indicate the route; the cycling route can be identified by its number and the sequence of named places. To reach Bukovina u Pecky, take the road that branches off from the road running from Pecka via Vřesník to Tetín. The paved asphalt road continues through the village to Arnoštov, Horní Javoří and Bělá u Pecky.
