Jarpice brings together sacred architecture and a distinctive landscape: the village lies in a hollow crossed by the Vranský and Pálečský streams and bounded by steeper slopes. The pilgrimage church of Kostel sv. Isidora is in the Budenice district; chapels and the Kinsky funeral chapel complex also contribute to the architectural heritage. Hiking and cycling are currently the main sports and leisure activities. When planning, you can therefore balance culture with outdoor pursuits.

Sacred Buildings in Jarpice and Budenice

The pilgrimage church of Kostel sv. Isidora in Budenice dates from 1680–1682 and has a valuable collection of sculptures. Its richly decorated early Baroque portal with a volute gable is complemented by sculptures by J. J. Bendl. The floor plan also makes the building distinctive: it is a single-nave, oriented structure with an oval central space on a Greek-cross plan. The date and elaborate portal design give the building a clear place in the cultural part of a stay.

Kaple sv. Jana Nepomuckého in Jarpice is an example of a different architectural form: it is a small Baroque central-plan building dating from around the 18th century. The chapel stands in a meadow beside the road to Vyšínek. By contrast, Kaple sv. Isidora stands on Jarpice village green, beside the road to Horní Kamenice; it has been listed as a cultural monument since 1958. When planning your trip, note the different names: Kostel sv. Isidora refers to the pilgrimage church in Budenice, while Kaple sv. Isidora is the chapel on Jarpice village green.

The Kinsky Complex and the Sýpka

The Budenice district is also home to the Kinsky funeral chapel complex, a remarkably valuable example of funerary architecture by Viennese architect Heinrich Koch. At its centre is a chapel on a cross-shaped plan, with a dome spanning the crossing. The protected ensemble also includes an enclosing wall with two gates, a statue of an angel, an allegorical statue of a woman, a park and the associated plots of land. The complex thus combines a clearly defined architectural focal point with sculptures and other features of the grounds.

Another architectural monument is the Sýpka, a two-storey stone granary of Renaissance origin, listed as an immovable cultural monument. Baroque timber structures have been preserved inside the Sýpka. The façades feature historic plaster layers in places, with Renaissance sgraffito and Baroque plasterwork. Its Renaissance origins and surviving Baroque details give the granary a different architectural history from the sacred buildings.

Landscape and Outdoor Activities

Jarpice’s location in a hollow shapes its landscape setting. Two linden trees designated as natural monuments stand in a field south of the settlement. A chestnut avenue runs along the road at the southeastern boundary of the cadastral area. The lindens and the avenue are therefore located in different parts of the municipality; both add specific landscape features to the view of the hollow crossed by streams.

For outdoor activities, Jarpice lists hiking and cycling as the current main sports and leisure pursuits. Together with the historic buildings, these offer different ways to plan your day: you can focus your stay more on architecture and building history, or put hiking and cycling first. The recorded landscape features and architectural forms describe specific local interests without prescribing a fixed itinerary.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

Jarpice is fully accessible by motor vehicle. A visitor information source from 2015 states that there is neither a railway line nor a station within the municipal area. Check current connections for your specific journey before setting off. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your stay around your preferred focus: sacred buildings and monuments offer different themes from the local opportunities for hiking and cycling.
