The Hobšovický rybník, the Church of Saint Wenceslas and the Minimuzeum panenek reveal three different sides of Hobšovice: protected nature, local history, and a collection of dolls and toys. The nature trail adds a route with a stop in the village to these themes. When planning your visit, you can choose between different highlights—from wetlands to architectural history and a museum visit.
Pond and Wetland
Hobšovický rybník lies on the Bakovský potok in the western part of the Hobšovice cadastral area. A specially protected natural monument, it covers around 10 hectares and is also a regional biocentre. The area also protects an important bird-breeding site and its wetland communities. Numerous gulls nest on an island in the pond every year. Its location, protected status and birdlife give the pond a clear connection to nature.
The Mokřiny u Beřovic protected area also includes the Hobšovice cadastral area. It is protected as an important breeding, resting and migratory bird area, and is a habitat for wetland animals and plants. This protected-area status therefore covers not only nesting sites but also resting and migrating birds and wetland habitats.
Nature Trail with a Stop in Hobšovice
The nature trail along the Bakovský, Vranský and Zlonický rivers opened in 2013 and has 21 stops in total. Stop 19 is in Hobšovice. Its number provides a specific reference point for understanding how the trail relates to the village; the routes can also be combined to make walks of different lengths. This lets you vary the length of your outing rather than assuming there is one fixed distance. Check the trail’s current condition before planning your visit.
Church and Memorial: Two Sides of Local History
The Church of Saint Wenceslas is a prominent landmark in the landscape around Hobšovice. The original church was Gothic; in 1850, a Baroque tower with three bells was added to its western side. The building thus shows two distinct phases: the church’s Gothic origins and the later Baroque addition.
A memorial featuring a statue of the resurrected Christ stands on the road to Luníkov. It was erected in 1878 in memory of two young people who died there tragically. The Neoclassical memorial was restored in 2012 and 2013 and then returned to its original location. While the church’s building history highlights its different architectural styles, the memorial connects its location with a specific reason for remembrance and a later restoration.
Puppet Museum and Visit Planning
The Minimuzeum panenek has been located in the former shop at Hobšovice No. 20 since 4 February 2024. Its exhibits include historic and retro dolls, as well as other toys. The museum adds a collection with its own theme to the village’s natural and architectural history. Visits can also be arranged for another date. Confirm the visiting arrangements before you travel so you can plan your museum visit accordingly.
Events and Seasonal Offerings
The traditional Bartolomějská pouť takes place in Hobšovice on the last Saturday in August. This date is a useful reference point when planning your stay. In summer, a refreshments stand is open every afternoon at the sports ground in Hobšovice. As this is a seasonal offering, it is advisable to check the current opening hours before your visit.
