In Ledce, the history of the municipality meets the former spa history of Šternberk: both topics feature in the memorial room. At the same time, the village lies in Džbán Nature Park.

Museum, Memorial Room and Yurt

The Malé asijské muzeum has been active in Ledce since 2005. On 8 December 2012, the memorial room dedicated to the municipality of Ledce and the former spas of Šternberk opened there. Using 15 large panels, several smaller panels, and display cases containing photographs, newspaper clippings, documents and objects, it documents the history and life of the municipality from the earliest times to the present day.

Visitors can also view the interior of a traditional Mongolian yurt in front of the museum building. The museum also has a library, with mainly Czech literature about Asia as well as regional literature from the Slánsko region. The memorial room, yurt and library each offer a different thematic focus. If you are planning a museum visit or a look inside the yurt, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.

Local History and Landscape

Archaeological finds from the present-day municipality provide evidence of prehistoric settlement. The former fortress of Ledce stood at the site of Dvořiště, between Ledce and the settlement of Šternberk. Šternberk has been part of the municipality of Ledce for several centuries. Thus, the prehistory of the municipal area and a specifically identified former fortified site belong to different chapters of local history.

At the beginning of the 19th century, after the springs had been surveyed, the Martinic family founded a spa in Šternberk. A grand colonnade was built at one of the springs. The former spa buildings are not generally open to the public, but their surroundings are considered a pleasant place for a walk. The area around the former spa buildings of Šternberk extends partly into Džbán Nature Park and the Smečno Natural Monument.

Ledce lies in Džbán Nature Park, which was designated in 1994 and covers 416 km². The park as a whole is predominantly hilly, with some areas rising to upland terrain. This landscape description applies to the nature park as a whole; the history of the spa is tied to Šternberk.

Horse Riding, Farma and Planning Your Visit

Renata Pavlasová Čečilová's Jezdecká škola offers riding lessons in Ledce. In good weather, riding lessons are supplemented by trail rides in the area around Ledce. Beginners are accompanied, and participation should be arranged in advance. The lessons are therefore distinct from the weather-dependent option of a trail ride.

Ledecká Farma (Etincelle) is open to the public; visits must be announced in advance. In summer, it runs holiday camps for children. Throughout the year, it offers programmes for schools and kindergartens, as well as herb workshops. The offerings also differ in their timing: the holiday camps take place in summer, while the programmes and workshops are available year-round.
