The red chimney with its white stripe is the landmark of Hospozín. Other highlights include a stream flowing through the centre of the village and buildings with remarkable details and dates. When planning a visit, it is also worth considering the bus connections and the location of the railway station in the neighbouring village of Kmetiněves.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

ICOM buses run through Hospozín towards Velvary and Slaný. Kmetiněves railway station is about half a kilometre from Hospozín and is on the Roudnice nad Labem–Zlonice railway line. Hospozín can be reached from there by train or bus. Check current routes and timetables before travelling; if you are travelling by train, it is especially useful to check the connections for your chosen day.

The Vranský Potok in the Village Landscape

The Vranský potok flows into the local pond and then continues through the centre of the village towards Černuc. The stream has a designated flood zone. The stream, pond and village centre thus form a clear geographical sequence that helps describe the location of the village. Those interested in the landscape and local waterways will find this a distinctive feature alongside the historic buildings.

Buildings and Their History

The Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist was built in 1595 on the site of an older building. It also stands in an area where archaeological finds have been discovered. The stone portal of the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk bears the coat of arms of Anna Polyxena z Clary a Adringen and the date 1711. Another niche chapel, with a statue of the same saint, takes the form of a richly decorated volute column with a niche. Its date is narrowed down to shortly after 1750.

Smaller details also bring local history to life: the unusually designed sandstone group of Saints Peter and Paul bears the date 1776 on the front of its plinth. The stone cross is considered a high-quality example of late Rococo craftsmanship. These objects show the variety of forms found here, though they do not all date from the same period.

An early Baroque granary brings together several visible traces of its building history. It has two storeys, a rectangular floor plan and a hipped roof; its original timber structure has been preserved. Inscribed cartouches on the façades bear the date 1673, while 1709 is carved into the door. Above the main entrance is a richly decorated overdoor panel with the coat of arms of the Kinský family, the owners of the estate. A stone granary with a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof was built as a new Baroque structure in the second half of the 18th century.

Visiting and Practical Planning

The manor house in the agricultural estate complex is a two-storey rectangular building erected after 1836. It is privately owned, used as a residence and not open to visitors. This restriction is important when planning a visit: the building is part of the village landscape, but it is not a place you can visit inside.

There are tennis courts for recreation in the area. They are open from 4 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays. On weekdays, bookings must be made two days in advance; for weekends, they must be made by Friday at the latest. As opening hours and booking conditions may change, check these details before planning a game of tennis.

Local highlights range from the waterway to churches and chapels, as well as the details of the granaries. Together with the specific bus and rail connections, they provide useful orientation for anyone considering adding Hospozín to their travel plans for its architectural history or village landscape.
