The Lebenswart adventure trail offers a special way to experience Oberwart: it runs through the Wart, an area around the Pinka in southern Burgenland, and through the town. Designed as a cycling and hiking trail for the whole family, it puts the Wart’s living multilingualism at its heart. In this way, physical activity and cultural discovery are two explicitly connected aspects of the trail. If you would like to bring both themes together, Lebenswart offers a clear starting point. Before setting off, it is advisable to check the route again.
The city garden: relaxation and activity
The city garden reveals another side of Oberwart. It is a place to relax and socialise, where you can enjoy trees, grasses and flowers. Shady benches and tables invite you to picnic, while various stations let you train your motor skills, fitness and coordination. The garden therefore offers both places to linger and opportunities to get active. Whether you are looking for a quiet break or a more active pastime, the seating areas and stations offer different ways to enjoy your visit.
Markets with their own histories and schedules
Oberwart’s weekly market has been running since 1841 and takes place every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the centre of Oberwart, at the main square and in the city garden. The farmers’ market follows a different weekly schedule: every Saturday, except on public holidays, regional direct sellers offer delicacies for sale there from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Both markets start at the same time, but differ in their day of the week and the goods on offer. If you want to plan a visit to a specific market, check its date in advance.
Arcade houses and architectural history
Arcade houses are characteristic of Oberwart and give the town its distinctive architectural character. Churches also reflect different aspects of its history: the church of the Oberwart Reformed Parish was built in 1771–73. In St. Martin in der Wart, the Catholic parish church dedicated to St Martin is the centrepiece and landmark of the village. The Offenes Haus Oberwart has been in existence since 1989. If you want to explore Oberwart through its architectural and cultural history, you can consider these aspects separately rather than reducing them to a single era.
Play, activity and water
StarJump, located in the former Exhibition Hall II, offers modern trampoline facilities across more than 3,000 square metres, as well as various jump, action and balance areas. For children aged 1 to 6, the StarJump Kids PlayGround offers age-appropriate play and activity options; the age range helps distinguish this offer from the other activity areas.
Oberwart outdoor pool has a water area of 800 square metres, a 7,000-square-metre sunbathing area for relaxing in the sun, and a large slide. The pool, sunbathing area and slide each offer a different focus for your visit. If you are planning a visit to the outdoor pool, check the current opening hours and the status of its facilities beforehand.
