Bad Tatzmannsdorf offers a range of options for a stay: thermal bath experiences, the history of the spa town, routes through the countryside and culinary events. Which of these you combine depends primarily on whether you are looking for day-trip options, local history or time outdoors.

Thermal Baths and Spa History

The AVITA Therme Burgenland offers day spa packages for day visitors. The thermal baths’ Sauna Garten Eden features 16 saunas and a varied infusion programme. The AVITA Resort also has a 1,200 m² bio-natural swimming pond. The spa museum offers a different perspective on the spa town: it preserves and presents its 400-year history. The Habsburg Room is dedicated to Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

Museums and Local History

The Bad Tatzmannsdorf open-air museum preserves residential and farm buildings dating from the late 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Guided tours focus on rural life from the 18th century onwards; their dates may vary. If a guided tour is important to your visit, check the current schedule in advance.

The two churches also offer an opportunity to explore different dates in the town’s history. The parish church of St John the Baptist was consecrated on 13 October 1968. The Protestant church was consecrated as the Church of Peace on 20 October of the same year. The two dates are one week apart; the Protestant church’s consecration is also linked to its name as the Church of Peace.

Trails and Countryside

The village walking route passes through the more than 400-year-old spa park and leads to a viewing platform that offers a view over almost all of Bad Tatzmannsdorf. The platform has orientation boards for identifying distant landmarks. In good weather, the view extends to the Koralpe, 115 km away. The Wetsch spring is also located in the spa park.

The hiking landscape around Bad Tatzmannsdorf includes gentle hills, wide meadows and forest trails. The town is Burgenland’s first official hiking village. Another specific route option is the S 21 Peace Circular Trail: it leads from Bad Tatzmannsdorf via Drumling to the Peace City of Stadtschlaining, then returns to the starting point along a mostly shady forest trail.

For a longer-distance hike, you can join the 123 km alpannonia panoramic long-distance trail in Bad Tatzmannsdorf. It runs from Fischbach in Lower Austria to Köszeg. Cyclists also have a named route to choose from: the 42 km Bahntrassen cycle path runs from Oberschützen to Rechnitz. Check the route conditions before setting off.

Regional Cuisine

DAZUMAL serves a lunch buffet featuring traditional Burgenland cuisine on the second Sunday of every month. The DAZUMAL Genussmarkt takes place on the first Sunday of every month from March to December and offers regional food products and handicrafts. The DAZUMAL Arkadenheuriger serves regional Slow Food specialities in the style of southern Burgenland, featuring produce from local farmers and winemakers. Check the dates in advance and, for the lunch buffet, also check the booking conditions.
