Church and local history
The Teichbach flows through Mischendorf. A notable point of reference for the town’s history is the parish church of St. Ladislaus: it is located in the centre and was built in 1757. The Catholic parish church of St. Ladislaus is also protected as a historic monument by ordinance. The year of construction and the protection status answer different questions: the year dates the building’s construction, while the protection status indicates the building’s classification under monument protection law. This allows the history of the church building and its legal recognition as a monument to be considered separately.
The Old Municipal Building – Stuhlrichterhof and the Old Roman Catholic Rectory are also protected as historic monuments by ordinance. They are two other named heritage sites in addition to the parish church. Several Roman urns were unearthed during construction of the current rectory. The dates refer to different things: 1757 is the church’s year of construction, while the urns are identified as finds discovered during construction of the current rectory. The town’s history is therefore reflected both in dated buildings and in an archaeological find associated with work on the rectory.
The memorials extend the view beyond the buildings. The Amerikanerkreuz, also called the Marienstatue, stands at Angerplatz. The Halwax Cross is on Obere HauptstraĂźe and was erected by the Vinzenz Halwax family in 1962. The two memorials can be readily distinguished by their details: the location and alternative name are given for one, while the street, year and family are provided for the other. Those interested in local history can thus explore both a locally named memorial and the specifically dated erection of another.
Protected area and cycling plans
The church in Mischendorf is included in the Südburgenländisches Hügel- und Terrassenland European protected area. It is therefore a parish church, a listed building and also part of this protected area. Another planning detail concerns cycling: Mischendorf is marked on the overview map for the Weinidylle B57 cycle route, dated 26 March 2024. If you are planning to use the cycle route, check the latest route details before setting off and take them into account in your plans.
Travelling by bus
Regional bus route 7932 serves the Mischendorf Nord and Mischendorf Hauptplatz stops. It connects Neuhaus, Mischendorf and Kohfidisch. The stop names identify two specific stops, while the place names indicate the route’s connections. Check the timetable before travelling. The bus route and cycling map provide different planning information: the bus information gives the stops and places connected, while the overview map marks Mischendorf on the cycle route. Depending on your chosen mode of transport, you can check the connection or route best suited to your travel date.
When choosing a place to stay, you can weigh two aspects separately: buildings and memorials represent the cultural and historical focus, while the bus route and cycling map offer starting points for planning your journey. This can also help structure your search for a holiday apartment in Mischendorf.
