Großpetersdorf combines its location in the Tauchental Valley with a market history dating back to the Middle Ages. A cycle path, seasonal leisure activities and a bus connection offer different starting points for planning your trip—from getting active along the Tauchenbach stream to staying in the area around an event date.

Landscape and outdoor activities

The village lies in the heart of the Tauchental Valley, surrounded by fields and on the edge of the forest, where the landscape of Burgenland becomes hilly. For cyclists, the B51 Tauchental cycle path starts at the Lagerhaus in Großpetersdorf and follows the Tauchenbach stream. This gives you a specific starting point and route along the stream to plan around. Check current route conditions before setting off.

Another way to get active is at the Großpetersdorf Fitness and Vitality Park. Use of the park is free; it is intended for children and adults, people who are fit and those who are not, as well as locals and tourists. Alongside the cycle path, it offers a dedicated place to exercise in the village.

Market history and event dates

The first reliable documentary mention of Großpetersdorf dates back to 1273. The village received market rights later: a document signed by Emperor and King Maximilian II on 2 September 1565 granted Großpetersdorf these rights. However, annual fairs had already been held before they were granted and continue to this day. The year 1565 therefore marks the granting of market rights, not the beginning of the annual fairs.

Every January, the Großpetersdorf Protestant Youth hosts the Protestant Youth Ball. The exact date may vary; check the date if you are planning your trip around the ball.

Seasonal leisure and local visits

Lucky Town is open every Monday in June, July and August from 5 p.m. Visits are therefore limited to specific months and one day of the week. Before travelling, check whether the opening date falls within your travel period.

Children can explore Lucky Town on horseback, meet a Native American, have their faces painted, use a bouncy castle or enjoy a rodeo ride. The family programme may vary by season. Lucky Town serves spareribs, corn on the cob and chili con carne from its outdoor kitchen; the food selection may also vary seasonally.

The Aqua-Qua outdoor swimming pool is another leisure option in Großpetersdorf. Opening hours are seasonal and may change. Check them before planning a day of swimming so you can schedule your visit according to the current hours.

The Reicher fruit brandy distillery can be visited by appointment by phone from Monday to Saturday. If you are planning a visit, arrange it by phone.
