Teufenthal lies in the middle of the Wynental in the Swiss canton of Aargau. Three distinct themes stand out when planning a trip: the adventure trail with marble runs and a legend, the stages of the Höhenweg aargauSüd, and the history of buildings and the village. The route details allow for a concrete comparison; the historical references range from a tale about a path to the former use of the mill. You can tailor your stay to hiking or local history.
Adventure Trail with Marble Runs and a Legend
The Teufenthal Adventure Trail leads from 450 m above sea level via HochrĂĽti, Dreiangel and Cholholz to Breiti at 564 m above sea level. Seven marble runs were built by Teufenthal businesses, giving the trail a playful focus. The installations may occasionally require maintenance; check their current condition before your visit.
The legend of Liebegg Castle and Trostburg is also part of the trail: it is presented on seven panels by the benches. The panels add a cultural element to the marble runs.
Comparing Hiking Sections
Section 03 of the Höhenweg aargauSüd leads from Teufenthal railway station via Wannenhof to the Hochwacht on Böhler. It is 6.3 km long; the approximate duration is 1 hour and 50 minutes. Before setting out, check the current trail conditions and route, as route details may change when they are revised.
Section 02 leads from Dürrenäsch via Liebegg Castle to Teufenthal railway station and is 6.8 km long. The sections meet at the station: Section 02 ends there, and Section 03 begins there. At 6.8 and 6.3 km, their lengths differ by just 0.5 km; the approximate duration of 1 hour and 50 minutes applies to Section 03.
Another hike runs from Reinach via Homberg to Teufenthal. It covers 17.8 km and climbs 421 m, making it considerably longer than the two Höhenweg sections. For planning, you can compare these route lengths with the approximate duration of Section 03.
Elevations in the Municipality
The municipal area ranges from 438 m above sea level at the Wyna to 630 m above sea level on the Bampf, an offshoot of the Surberg. This municipal elevation range is broader than the two specific elevation points given for the adventure trail: 450 m above sea level at the start and 564 m above sea level at Breiti. This helps distinguish Teufenthal’s geographic range from the profile of a single route.
History of Buildings and the Village
Trostburg is privately owned and cannot be visited. Check access status again before travelling there. Inside, you can find elements from the Late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo (Louis XV) periods.
The mill in Teufenthal is a building of considerable cultural and historical significance, where farmers from the wider surrounding area had their grain milled. The existing mill building is believed to date from around the middle of the 18th century. An inscription on the yoke post in the mill cellar refers to 1751 and the initials “HRWM”. Its former function and the tentative dating offer different insights into the building’s history.
The Aargau Castle and Culture Trail follows traces of industrial history, adding this further historical perspective to the local stories of buildings and the mill.
