Beinwil am See offers archaeological history, nature and outdoor activities, as well as seasonal swimming on Lake Hallwil. There is also the Reformed Church, with its architectural history and art. You can choose between a focus on the water, a walking tour and cultural history.
Early lakeside settlement at Ägelmoos
The Beinwil-Ägelmoos archaeological site is freely accessible. Nevertheless, check the access conditions before your visit. Ceramic fragments dating from around 4400–4100 BC show that Beinwil-Ägelmoos is one of the earliest lakeside settlements in the Swiss Central Plateau. The traces of settlement mark an early point in time; the Reformed Church, built in 1935, offers a later point of comparison. Those interested in history can explore different periods this way.
Nature and outdoor activities
The Lake Hallwil rangers lead excursions and project days. They provide information about the landscape, the diversity of animal and plant life around the lake, and the applicable rules. Clubs and teams can join a discovery tour with a Lake Hallwil ranger for a small contribution towards expenses. Participation requirements and the fee may change, so it is best to check both in advance.
One specific hiking option is the lakeside and mountain hike from Boniswil station via Leutwil, Birrwil Häfni and Homberg to Beinwil am See station. It is 8.00 km long and classified as moderately difficult. Check the route information before setting out, as the route, difficulty rating and conditions may change. The Aargau View Trail is accessible by public transport via Schöftland station and Beinwil am See station. The two options provide different planning details: the lakeside and mountain hike lists its length and difficulty, while the Aargau View Trail lists access via these stations. Tours also include a route from Beinwil am See to Hallwil and a run along Lake Hallwil.
The Teufi barbecue area is located on the Eggelerbach between Beinwil am See and Birrwil.
Summer on Lake Hallwil
Beinwil am See beach is on Lake Hallwil and invites visitors to sunbathe, swim, splash around, play and relax during the summer months. Facilities include a children's paddling pool, a non-swimmer area and a small playground. The beach is explicitly a seasonal offering; check the access conditions before your visit.
Church, art and guided tours
The Reformed Church in Beinwil am See was designed by the architect Meili from Zurich and built according to his plans in 1935. Paintings by Beinwil artists Paul Eichenberger and Eugen Maurer are displayed on the north side of the nave. Church and tower tours last about an hour. Allow around an hour for a tour when planning your time.
