At Pla de Campllong stands the Pi de les Tres Branques. According to a source from 2012, the Pi is interpreted as a symbol of the PaĂŻsos Catalans and the Trinity. In Castellar Del Riu, these cultural associations sit alongside churches and chapels, recurring festivals and mountain trails.

Culture, Festival Days and Architecture

The Aplec del Pi de les Tres Branques takes place on the third Sunday in July in Campllong. The Aplec includes a procession with Cobla Pirineu, the giant figures of Espinalbet, the Trabucaires de Castellar del Riu, the entourage of the young Jaume I, Guillem de Montrodon and his children's court. The annual Festa de Sant Salvador de Vilaverd falls on 4 August; it includes a morning mass and the distribution of traditional bread. The Gala de Corbera takes place later in the year: it is held on the Sunday after 8 September and includes the Ball de la Coca. Check the current festival programme before your trip.

The churches and chapels also display different architectural styles. The Santuari de Corbera is a complex comprising a church, rectory and former inn. Sant Salvador de Vilaverd is a single-nave, rectangular church with a semicircular apse. Santa Coloma de Can Cabra has a rectangular, single-nave floor plan and stands next to the Masia Can Cabra. Sant Llorenç dels Porxos is a single-nave chapel on a rocky slope in the Serra dels Lladres; its location offers exceptional views.

Castell d'Espinalbet is listed among the possessions of the troubadour Guillem de BerguedĂ . Its platform is interpreted as a possible base for a defensive tower. This site therefore brings together a historical association and an interpretation explicitly described as possible.

Mountain Landscape and Trails

The Camí dels Bons Homes can be travelled on foot, on horseback and by bicycle. Its GR-107 Queralt–Gósol section passes through Castellar Del Riu. Another route is the Camí d'Avià a Campllong: at Collada Gran, it joins the path towards Espinalbet. Historically, it served as a link between the churches of Sant Vicenç d'Espinalbet and Sant Martí de Coforb.

CogullĂł d'Estela is a limestone mountain 1,869 metres high, visited by many hikers. Roc d'AurĂł is one of the peaks in the Rasos de Peguera range and reaches 1,948 metres. The comparison in elevation is clear: Roc d'AurĂł is 79 metres higher than CogullĂł d'Estela; the limestone formation is also specifically noted for CogullĂł. The Serra d'Ensija-Rasos de Peguera forms one of the southernmost limits of the distribution of alpine vegetation in Catalonia.

The prepared Font d'Espinalbet, with street furniture, is located at Torrent de Tagast, on the path to the church of Sant Vicenç d'Espinalbet. Thus, alongside the peaks, a spring and its position on a path to a church serve as distinct landmarks in the landscape.

Local Events, Food and Getting There

The Esmorzar Trabucaire offers black peas, patates emmascarades, tastet, black pudding, bacon and Posima Trabucaire; the offering may change. The breakfast is open to everyone and ends with a route to emblematic places in Castellar Del Riu. Check the current programme before your trip.

A municipal description updated in January 2024 lists meals and overnight accommodation at the Xalet-Refugi de Rasos de Peguera. If you are considering staying there overnight, check current availability in advance.

Demand-responsive transport with stops at the town hall and the Els Roures restaurant can be booked to access the municipality. Before travelling, check whether this transport is available for your dates.
