Four tourist routes, Parc de l'Hostal del Fum and several museums give visitors different ways to explore Palau-solità i Plegamans. The town also has architectural history ranging from Romanesque buildings to 20th-century structures. If you are planning a stay, you can choose how to balance nature, collections and architecture according to your interests.
Routes and natural setting
The municipal programme includes four tourist routes designed to help visitors discover the natural landscape and cultural heritage in a healthy and sustainable way. One of them is a cycling route. The four routes can also be started at other points. Physical directional signs, GPS tracks and QR codes along the way make it easier to find your way. As signs and digital information may change, check the latest details before setting out.
Parc de l'Hostal del Fum is a 35,000-square-metre enclosed site with native vegetation, paths, a stream and ponds. The park provides refuge for small mammals and nesting sites for birds. A 3.1-kilometre railway line operated by Tren de Palau runs through the park, ranks among its main attractions and offers a fun and convenient way to visit. If you plan to include the railway in your itinerary, check its current operating hours in advance.
Museums and cultural programme
The Museu-Arxiu de la Fundació Folch i Torres is open to the public and researchers. It preserves the works, as well as biographical and bibliographical materials, of the five brothers Manuel, Lluís, Josep Maria, Ignasi and Joaquim Folch i Torres. The permanent exhibition includes, among other things, Josep Maria Folch i Torres's study, portraits, busts and paintings of the brothers, complete collections and original manuscripts. Visiting arrangements and exhibition content may change; check both before your visit.
The Museu Internacional del Titella de Catalunya is housed in the Masia de Can Falguera. It displays puppets from around the world, along with their performance and manipulation techniques. This offers a different cultural focus from the collection dedicated to the Folch i Torres brothers. The Castell de Plegamans also hosts a cultural programme: music is presented on its terraces and in its gardens, and the Mercat Medieval takes place there every year. If you want to plan your visit around these events, check the dates and programme for each one.
Architecture from Romanesque to modern
The route through the modern architectural heritage runs entirely through the town centre; check its route before setting out. The Església Parroquial de Santa Maria de Palau-solità was consecrated on 14 November 1122. It is a Romanesque church whose surviving Romanesque sections are connected to later additions. The current parish church of Sant Genís was designed by architect Puig Boada and consecrated in 1946.
The Casa Folch and the Escoles Velles provide further architectural points of interest. Casa Folch is a Noucentisme-style summer house that formerly belonged to the writer Josep M. Folch i Torres. The Escoles Velles is a rationalist building created by Josep M. Sert in 1934. Together, these buildings illustrate different architectural approaches: surviving Romanesque sections with later additions sit alongside the styles of Noucentisme and Rationalism; Sant Genís adds a historical reference through the year of its consecration.
