For a stay in Sant Fost de Campsentelles, architectural history and trails are at the heart of the experience: the medieval Romanesque remains of the old church stand in clear contrast to the present-day church, completed in 1941. Other highlights include the Iberian settlement of Les Maleses on the municipal boundary, two hikes with stated distances, and part of the municipal area within Parc de la Serralada de Marina. This gives you different ways to balance culture, landscape, and outdoor activity during your trip.
Churches from the Middle Ages to the 20th century
The old church of Sant Fost de Campsentelles has medieval Romanesque origins. Its surviving features include two side walls of the nave, a small semicircular apse, and two small side apses. The church was burned down in 1936; its surviving parts are clearly distinct from the later church building. If you are exploring the town’s development through its architecture, you will find tangible traces here of an older place of worship.
The present-day church replaced the old one. It was built in the postwar period and completed in 1941. Its plan is basilican: the building has three aisles, with the central aisle wider and divided into seven bays; a semicircular apse forms the end. The two churches therefore have different architectural features: the visible parts of the older nave and its apses in one, and the division into three aisles and seven bays in the other.
Another church building is Sant CebriĂ de Cabanyes, a Romanesque hermitage on the western slope of the Serralada de Marina, near La Conreria. It was formerly the parish church of the district of Cabanyes, which was incorporated into the parish of Sant Fost in 1504. Its single-nave layout and semicircular apse differ from the three-aisled plan of the present-day church of Sant Fost. Together, the buildings offer several concrete points of comparison between Romanesque architecture and later church design.
Municipal boundary, park, and winegrowing
The Iberian settlement of Les Maleses lies on the municipal boundary between Sant Fost de Campsentelles and Montcada i Reixac. Its location on the boundary is part of how this archaeological site is situated. Part of the municipality of Sant Fost lies within Parc de la Serralada de Marina; the park’s presence explicitly concerns only part of the municipality.
Winegrowing is also part of the area’s profile. Vineyards lie partly among the forests on the western slopes toward Vallès Oriental. Sant Fost de Campsentelles also belongs to the DO Alella wine appellation. The landscape setting and winegrowing designation are separate points of reference: the vineyards describe part of the slope, while DO Alella names the regional wine designation.
Compare hikes by distance
Two specific distances can help you choose a route. The Cementiri Sant Fost – Les Maleses i la Coscollada route is 8.78 kilometres long. The Cementiri de Sant Fost – Pou de Glaç hike is 8.09 kilometres. The first route is therefore 0.69 kilometres longer; the destinations named in the routes also differ. When weighing the two options, you can compare both distance and destination directly. Check current route conditions before setting out, as they can change.
Festa Major in July
The Festa Major de Sant Fost takes place over the last weekend in July and lasts four days. Its recurring timing helps with planning, while its duration gives you an indication of how much of your stay the festival might occupy.
