Sant Andreu de Llavaneres lies between the sea and the mountains. Golf and nautical activities are considered pillars of the local sports offering; there are also routes to explore on foot or by bicycle. Local cuisine and collections on art and everyday history reveal other sides of the town.
Sports and routes between towns
The Ruta de les 3 Viles connects Sant Andreu de Llavaneres with Sant Vicenç de Montalt and Caldes d’Estrac. It can be travelled on foot or by bicycle.
There are also two other distinct cycling options. The Ruta familiar de Sant Andreu de Llavaneres is designated as a mountain bike (BTT) route and runs through the municipality. The cycling path from Mataró to Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, by contrast, connects the railway stations in the two towns. It is considered easy and technically undemanding, passing through Cinc Sènies, an agricultural area belonging to Mataró, and running between farmland by the sea. Conditions on both the BTT route and the cycling path may change; check them before setting out.
Golf and nautical activities shape the town’s sporting character. The facilities of Club NĂ utic El BalĂs are located in the port and include two padel courts and an outdoor saltwater pool. Club de Golf Llavaneras was founded in 1945.
Peas and pastries from Llavaneres
Pèsol Garrofal de Llavaneres is closely tied to local agriculture. It grows in gravelly, sandy soils, is considered particularly sweet and is harvested from around March; harvest times may vary by season. A quality guarantee mark applies only to growing areas within the municipality of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres. If a producer’s current certification is important to you, check its status.
A typical dish made with cooked peas is Pèsols ofegats, prepared Llavaneres-style. Restaurants in the municipality serve the dish, which is also part of the Festa del Pèsol, held in April. Which individual establishments take part or serve the dish may change. If you plan your visit around the festival, check the latest dates.
Another local speciality is Coca de Llavaneres, a characteristic dessert of the local cuisine. It consists of puff pastry filled with cream and marzipan made from local almonds, and is topped with local pine nuts. It is produced exclusively by artisan bakeries within the municipality.
Art, collections and architectural history
The Museu de Llavaneres brings together collections of ceramics, numismatics, toys and glass, as well as objects relating to rural and domestic life. It also has radios, cameras and projectors dating from the late 19th century onwards. The art gallery includes works by artists associated with Llavaneres, such as the Masriera, Durancamps, Toulouse, Vancells and Cardunets. The collection also includes contemporary Catalan paintings by Rà fols Casamada, Antoni Clavé, Miró, Tà pies and Guinovart, as well as a sculpture gallery with works by Borrell Nicolau, Manolo Hugué, Subirachs and Riera i Aragó. Individual exhibitions may change.
Can Caralt also tells a story of architectural change: the building was initially an 18th-century farmhouse and was converted into a mansion in the second half of the 19th century.
