The Church of the Holy Trinity stands on Nedelski vrh at an elevation of 355 metres. Its Romanesque and Gothic features reveal several construction phases, while hiking trails lead to Gornji Petrovci and through GoriÄŤko. When planning, it is worth considering two distinct topics: the development of church architecture and the condition of the routes between forest paths and road sections. Check service and event times, as well as current trail markings, before your trip.

Churches and Building History

The Church of the Holy Trinity was built on a 13th-century Romanesque foundation. A short Romanesque section from the 14th century stands alongside a longer Gothic chancel from the 15th century. Elaborate stonework details are among its striking features. This makes it possible to distinguish different construction phases within a single building, rather than reducing its history to a single founding date. Nedelski vrh was once known for its vineyards. The church and this historic land use thus represent two different aspects of the hill's history.

The Evangelical Church in Gornji Petrovci has a different chronology. It was completed and consecrated in 1824. It acquired its present appearance in 1894/95, when it was enlarged and completely renovated in the Romanesque style. Compared with the Church of the Holy Trinity, whose building features span several centuries, two milestones are clearly identified here: its completion and consecration in the 19th century, followed by its later enlargement and renovation. Services are held at the Evangelical Church on Sundays and public holidays at 10:00 a.m. Check the time before your visit, as this schedule may change.

Hiking and Trails

The Pomurska Hiking Trail leads to Gornji Petrovci. Trail stamps and a hiking logbook are available at the PindĹľa Inn near the Church of the Holy Trinity. The trail is well marked and passes through mixed forest, and in places pine forest, along soft forest paths and partly on roads. This mix is relevant when planning: the route does not consist entirely of forest paths but also includes road sections. Check current markings and trail conditions before setting out. If you would like to use the trail stamp or hiking logbook, you can confirm in advance if needed that both are available at the inn mentioned.

Another hiking route through Goričko follows the Moravske Toplice – Gornji Petrovci – Hodoš route. The sequence of places offers a different way to orient yourself than the description of the Pomurska Hiking Trail: here, the places along the route are the focus, whereas the other description highlights markings and terrain. This allows you to distinguish between the two routes based on the information provided for each, without assuming that they share a section or have the same walking time.

Local Cuisine and Events

Local cuisine is also part of what makes the area distinctive. The Vrtanek Tourism Association primarily showcases grandmothers' cooking and received a republic-level award for its culinary work in Ljubljana. Cooking workshops are also offered; dates and participation requirements may change. If you would like to plan a workshop, ask in advance about the specific options.

The Prešeren Hiking Day takes place every year on 8 February, Prešeren Day, with a route through the village. As event dates may change, check the date for the relevant year before your trip. This way, you can plan for the event as part of your stay and distinguish it from the hiking trails described separately.
