Melinci can be explored through two distinctive local traditions: the Mura crossing by Brod, which has been preserved to this day, and the manual production of bricks on the riverbank. Other features include the Chapel of Marija Snežna, Prekmurje folk songs and paths through the surrounding area. When planning your trip, you can choose between local history, crafts and nature.

Brod na Muri and the Mura

The Brod na Muri consists of two flat-bottomed boats connected by a platform. Using the current, the structure moves across the Mura along a steel cable. This working principle makes this traditional crossing a different way to cross the river than a fixed bridge. If you are planning to cross, check in advance whether the service is operating on your travel dates.

Brickmaking on the riverbank

On the banks of the Mura lies Ciglarsko naselje, where traditional manual brickmaking is demonstrated. Clay extracted from the fields is shaped into bricks using moulds. The focus is not only on the finished building material, but also on the craft process that turns clay into a brick.

Ciglarsko naselje also has an open-air exhibition. The demonstration of brickmaking and the open-air exhibition are two separate features of the site. The Ciglarski dnevi are also held there each year on the banks of the Mura. Dates and programmes may vary; check the current details if you would like to include the festival in your stay.

Chapel, village festival and folk songs

The Chapel of Marija Snežna was built in 1912 and blessed on 7 November 1914. During the traditional village festival, the proščenje of Melinci, generations of villagers gathered at the chapel for religious festivities. The chapel is therefore also associated with the local festival tradition.

The groups “Melinčki ciglari” and the women’s singing group “Melinčke ciglarke” help preserve local Prekmurje folk songs. KUD Melinci usually holds an annual concert; dates may vary. If you would like to include musical events in your trip, check whether a concert falls within your travel dates.

Woodlands and paths in the surrounding area

Swampy woodlands lie east of Melinci. From the Apiturizem Šemen Štefan site, numerous paths and old river branches lead through the woods to the Mura; the area is associated with otters and beavers. Alongside crafts and village history, the woods and the course of the river are also themes to explore during a stay in the Melinci area.

The Mura route “Sprehajalna pot ob Muri” runs from Melinci via Ižakovci to Dokležovje. Route details may change; if you are planning to walk it, check the current route in advance.

Local specialities

Pajani krüj is available to order at Ciglarsko naselje. If you would like to try it, arrange your order before arriving. Apiturizem Šemen Štefan offers nine types of honey, including buckwheat honey, as well as propolis, flower pollen and royal jelly. The range may change. Contact them in advance to find out what is currently available if you are interested in specific products.
