Stramnica: rural architectural history

Stramnica showcases rural architectural history through several preserved buildings. One cottage, numbered 1, and another, numbered 37, date from the mid-19th century. A barn and a farm building, numbered 2 and 4, date from the first half of the 19th century. The preserved architectural heritage thus includes different building types from two periods. If you would like to explore local history through the built environment, Stramnica offers a specific local focus.

A nature theme nearby

The municipality’s only surviving section of Luzulo-Fagetum beech forest lies between Kądzielno and Stramnica. The buildings belong to Stramnica; the forest section is in the area between the two places. When choosing a destination, you can therefore consider whether you are more interested in the village’s architectural history or a nearby nature theme.

A diverse landscape in the wider Kołobrzeg destination

The wider Kołobrzeg destination, Gmina Kołobrzeg, brings together coastal dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt marshes and river valleys. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded there, including many protected species. Sphagnum mosses and marsh vegetation grow in the raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo; insectivorous plants are also found there. Nature in the Kołobrzeg destination therefore ranges from coastal landscapes to bog habitats.

Coast and activities in the wider Kołobrzeg destination

Dźwirzyno Beach is a wide, sandy stretch of coast bordered by dunes and pine forest, making it suitable for walks and shaded relaxation. During the bathing season, it has guarded beach sections, food and drink stalls, changing rooms and toilets. Some access points have been adapted for pushchairs and people with reduced mobility.

For exercise, there are three Nordic walking routes in Grzybowo and Dźwirzyno, with varying levels of difficulty, running along the beaches and through the coastal forest. The 55-kilometre Wokół Jeziora Resko cycling route runs mostly through Gmina Kołobrzeg and also extends into the neighbouring Gmina Trzebiatów. The Gminne Centrum Sportu i Rekreacji in Dźwirzyno offers bicycle hire for exploring Gmina Kołobrzeg. The walking routes and cycling route therefore differ both in activity and in the stated distance.

Dźwirzyno harbour was once a fishing port and is now a fishing and tourism harbour. It is suitable for coastal sailing, fishing trips and sea excursions in small boats. A modern bridge over the canal between Jezioro Resko Przymorskie and the sea is considered a landmark of Dźwirzyno.

Cultural history in the wider Kołobrzeg destination

The wider Kołobrzeg destination also offers further points of comparison in architectural history. The Neo-Gothic church in Korzystno dates from 1866 and includes a former churchyard cemetery laid out in the same year, enclosed by a distinctive brick wall. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Karcino is a Neo-Gothic church dating from 1869. The two years are close together; a different construction period and style can be seen at the hunting palace in Budzistowo, built in the eclectic style around the turn of the 20th century.

If you are looking for holiday apartments, the thematic focus can help you choose a destination: Stramnica is centred on its preserved rural buildings; the beach, harbour and other nature and cultural themes belong to the wider Kołobrzeg destination.
