Kołobrzeg can be planned from different perspectives: Ekopark Wschodni represents protected nature, while church architecture, military history and the harbour appeal to other interests. When preparing a stay, you can consider these themes separately rather than combining them into a single list of attractions. The following places and features show what Kołobrzeg has to offer visitors interested in nature, hiking and culture.

Nature and Birdlife at Ekopark

Ekopark Wschodni is an ecological protected area safeguarding unique plant and animal habitats within the brackish marsh ecosystem. It covers 381 hectares and is listed as a bird protection area in the European network of protected areas. About 80 bird species have been recorded there; this figure is an estimate and may change with future surveys.

Hiking Trail and Harbour Views

The internationally significant, red-marked E-9 hiking trail runs through Kołobrzeg; the section within the town is about 12 kilometres long. At the end of the passenger harbour lies the 308-metre-long eastern breakwater. From there, visitors can enjoy views of the harbour roadstead, passing ships and sunsets. This offers a choice of different focuses: a marked hiking route on the one hand and a harbour viewpoint on the other. The length of around 12 kilometres refers to the section in Kołobrzeg.

Basilica and Collections

The Basilica of the Assumption of Mary is a five-aisled church built around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Inside are a bronze baptismal font dating from 1355 and a large chandelier from 1523, known as the Schlieffen Crown. The church’s construction period refers to a span of time; by contrast, the two furnishings are associated with specific years.

The Muzeum Oręża Polskiego presents a chronologically arranged collection on the history of the Polish military from the Middle Ages to the present day. On display are more than 70 military vehicles, aircraft, armoured weapons and artillery, spread across the Technology Hall and an open-air exhibition. The collection thus offers both a chronological overview and different types of military exhibits in two distinct presentation formats.

Another remnant of the town’s fortification history is Baszta Lontowa, also called Baszta Prochowa. It is a remnant of Kołobrzeg’s medieval defensive walls and was built in the 15th century. The basement of the Kołobrzeg lighthouse houses a mineral museum. Together with the basilica and the military museum, these sites offer a range of historical themes, from church architecture and defensive walls to military history and mineral collections.

In the wider Kołobrzeg destination

The landscape of the Gmina Kołobrzeg adds another distinct area of interest within the wider Kołobrzeg destination. The municipality brings together coastal dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt marshes and river valleys. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded there, including many protected species. In the raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo, peat mosses and marsh vegetation grow; insectivorous plants are also found there.

Dźwirzyno Beach is a broad, sandy stretch of coast bordered by dunes and a pine forest, making it suitable for walks and shaded relaxation. During the bathing season, it has lifeguarded sections, food stalls, changing rooms and toilets. Some access points have been adapted for pushchairs and people with reduced mobility.

For outdoor exercise in the wider destination, there are three Nordic walking routes in Grzybowo and Dźwirzyno, with different levels of difficulty, running along the beaches and through the coastal forest. Another option is the 55-kilometre Wokół Jeziora Resko route: it runs mostly through the Gmina Kołobrzeg and also enters the neighbouring Gmina Trzebiatów. The routes therefore differ both in their stated difficulty levels and in their described courses and lengths.
