Prüm combines city history with outdoor destinations: the self-guided city rally has a clearly defined start and finish, while the spa gardens and panoramic hiking trail offer different ways to spend time outdoors. When looking for hotels in Prüm, it helps to decide on the purpose of your trip first. Events, culture and winter activities call for different time frames; check event dates and seasonal conditions before making concrete travel plans.

Rally, Guided Tour and Event Dates

The city rally in Prüm starts and finishes at the Tourist Information Office at Hahnplatz 1. As a self-guided activity, it differs from the historical guided tour through Prüm. Group tours can be booked year-round on request; the date and time are arranged in advance. If you are planning a group tour, confirm the specific arrangements with the Tourist Information Office.

The horse market takes place on a Saturday in early April and early October at the exhibition grounds. The farmers’ market in Prüm is held on the third Sunday in October in and around the Konvikt, House of Culture. Check the current municipal calendar before planning your stay around one of these dates.

Organized by the town of Prüm, the GLS has attracted more than 20,000 visitors every two years since 1967. Its biennial schedule is an important factor when choosing your dates; check whether the event falls in your planned travel year.

City History and Art

Features inside the Basilica of St. Salvator include the Baroque high altar and the tomb of Emperor Lothar. Lothar was a grandson of Charlemagne. The history of the Benedictine abbey also reaches far back: the building of Prüm Abbey, founded in 721, was converted into a Baroque palace in 1748 based on plans by Balthasar Neumann. The art exhibition of the European Association of Visual Artists (EVBK) takes place during the summer holidays.

Walking Routes, Hiking and Winter Sports

Prüm Spa Gardens lie on the outskirts of town and offer walking paths, flower beds and seating. The Panorama Trail 120 offers a different way to spend time outdoors: this challenging circular hike loops around Prüm and provides views of the town, the Basilica of St. Salvator and the surrounding countryside. In the Kruft Sculpture Park in Prüm-Niederprüm, a walk between meadows and trees passes life-size herons, giant metal insects and numerous ponds. Sculptures and ponds define this walk, while the Panorama Trail offers views of the town and basilica.

For winter trips, the Wolfsschlucht winter sports area is near Prüm. It has downhill slopes, a drag lift, tobogganing opportunities, and marked, groomed cross-country ski trails. As operations depend on seasonal conditions, check current snow and lift status before travelling.
