Architecture and history in Auw bei Prüm

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Auw bei Prüm is a late Gothic hall church with a massive west tower. Its main structure dates from around 1511/31. An elaborate post-Baroque altar cross from the early 19th century stands on Lindenweg. The church and cross thus represent different historical periods: the church’s main structure is considerably older than the cross.

The farmstead at Mühlenweg 1 was a house with a central corridor kitchen and probably dates from around the middle of the 18th century or shortly thereafter; the agricultural buildings are presumably newer. This cautious dating also applies to the distinction between the residential and agricultural buildings.

A memorial at the site of the former court recalls the execution of Auw’s parish priest, Michael Campensis. In April 1627, he was convicted as a warlock on Radsberg and executed by burning. This memorial adds a specific historical reference to a person and a precisely stated year to the architectural history.
