In Kleinlangenfeld, the topics range from sacred architectural history to natural monuments. St. Agatha and St. Lucia Chapel, the Langer Stein and the raised bog on the Holscheid each offer a different focus: historical building phases and Baroque details sit alongside a shaped basalt stone and a protected bog area.

A chapel with several building phases

St. Agatha and St. Lucia Chapel was originally built in 1767. The original building was destroyed in an air raid on Ash Wednesday 1945; the replacement building was consecrated in 1953. This sequence distinguishes the history of the first chapel from that of the later building. Inside, four Baroque statues of saints are part of the protected cultural heritage. A Baroque wayside shrine also stands in front of the chapel’s east side and is likewise part of the protected cultural heritage. The chapel therefore brings together a distinctive local history and individual Baroque objects.

Langer Stein and raised bog

The Langer Stein cultural monument is located in the Kleinlangenfeld forest. It is an obelisk-shaped basalt stone, with a cross engraved near the tip on each of its four sides. In the case of the Langer Stein, the focus is therefore not on a sequence of construction phases, but on the object’s form.

Southeast of Kleinlangenfeld lies the raised bog on the Holscheid, a registered natural monument. The area figures also give a sense of the municipality’s landscape: Kleinlangenfeld covers 782 hectares. As of 31 December 2019, 45.5 percent of the area was used for agriculture and around 45.8 percent was forest. These figures show that both land uses account for a similar share.

Facilities and overnight stays

In 2026, a bus and hiking lodge, an accessible terrace at the municipal hall and an inclusive playground for young children were among the measures implemented in Kleinlangenfeld. There is also a small sports and play area. If you are considering using it as part of your plans, check its condition before visiting. The term “accessible” refers to the terrace at the municipal hall.

A holiday apartment with five beds is listed for overnight stays in Kleinlangenfeld. Check availability before your trip, before making firm plans to stay there.

More things to see in the Bitburg-Prüm district

The wider destination of the Bitburg-Prüm district offers additional cultural and educational attractions. The Mühlenberger Stollen Bleialf visitor mine has a mining trail with numerous information boards about the area’s mining history. One-hour tours of the mine cover ore extraction in Bleialf, from geology to applied technology. Check seasonal tour times before planning your visit.

The Devonium in Waxweiler presents complex topics in palaeontology and the science of fossil life in an engaging way. The exhibition at the Westwall Museum is housed across three accessible bunker levels, as well as in underground corridors and rooms; its subject is military history. The Rittersdorf moated castle, around 700 years old, has remained almost unchanged since it was built and offers a glimpse of late-medieval and early modern Renaissance domestic culture. The castle also has a privately run restaurant serving refined country cuisine. Check whether it is open before your trip.
