Pronsfeld brings together nature, hiking trails and different ways to enjoy cycling. The protected Alfbach Valley, eight hiking trails and several cycling routes shape the options available. There are also dedicated facilities for mountain bikers, as well as a railway museum. To help plan your visit, you can distinguish between the options by their specific features: views, scenery, surface and distance each offer a different way to find your bearings.

Alfbach Valley and Nature

The Alfbach Valley near Pronsfeld is a protected nature area. With a little luck, you may see beavers at “work” there. The valley adds a natural highlight alongside the town’s hiking and cycling options.

Hiking Trails and Viewpoints

The eight hiking trails in Pronsfeld start at the hiking and cycling car park at the former railway station. A large car park offers convenient parking for visitors arriving by car, including cyclists, hikers and inline skaters. The former station is also the starting point for routes along the old railway tracks. The hiking trails pass through fields and woodland to viewpoints such as Hochberg. The Riesenstuhl viewpoint chair can be reached on foot from the cemetery by the Old Church via the K120 and stands at an elevation of about 463 m.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

The Enz Cycle Route, Prüm Cycle Route and Eifel-Ardennes Cycle Route meet at the Pronsfeld cycling route junction. The Pronsfeld–Prüm railway path is 10 km long and fully paved; the Enz Cycle Route runs for 25 km from Pronsfeld to Neuerburg along a former railway line. If you are choosing based on the character of the route, the path to Prüm is defined by its fully paved surface, while the Enz Cycle Route offers the longer route along a former railway line.

Since 2019, mountain bikers have been able to use a dirt line with four dirt jumps and a pump track with two 180° berms, various bumps and small doubles at Bikepark Pronsfeld to train their fitness and coordination. A circular route of around 2 km connects Bike Park Pronsfeld and the Hochberg Trail. At around 2 km, it is shorter than the 10 km route to Prüm and the 25 km Enz Cycle Route.

Railway History and Townscape

The small, informative railway museum in Pronsfeld recalls the time when Pronsfeld was a railway junction. The parish church in the centre of the village has a slate-covered dome; its freestanding bell tower was built in 1962.
