Ostbevern lies in the parkland landscape of the Münsterland and is surrounded by extensive forests. The town combines a strong connection to its landscape with a history of churches and crafts: alongside marked hiking trails, there is a diverse church ensemble, half-timbered buildings, and regional traditions. When choosing where to stay, it is worth weighing these different sides according to whether you would like to spend more time outdoors or focus on cultural history.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Ostbevern is connected to the road network via the Ostbevern exit on the A1 and the B51; rail services run on the Münster–Osnabrück line. Check your route and train connection before setting off so that your travel plans are based on current information.

Churches, Half-Timbered Buildings, and Crafts

The St. Ambrosius parish church ensemble brings together three clearly datable structural elements: a three-aisled hall church from 1962, a church tower with a lower section dating to the 12th century, and a Gothic church from the 16th century. The different periods of construction stand side by side here, offering an appealing starting point if you would like to explore how church architecture has changed over time.

In the district of Brock, a small half-timbered settlement lies beside the Herz-Jesu parish church. Brock is also home to the Museum of Historical Laundry Technology in the old village school, which showcases traditional laundry practices. Check opening arrangements before visiting. The local history museum displays a collection on local crafts and agricultural traditions. Traditional crafts such as wooden shoe making are also part of the tourist program.

The grounds around Haus Bevern have been designated an archaeological monument since 1994. Haus Bevern is privately occupied and cannot be visited; check access conditions again before planning a visit. The architectural heritage also includes the former Westphalian Kötterhaus of the Poggenburg family. It was renovated and transferred to the Ostbevern local history association in 1995.

Parks and Trails Around Loburg Castle

The landscape park at Loburg Castle offers space for long walks among Douglas firs and rhododendrons, which have adorned the park for around a century. The forest adjoining Loburg Castle covers more than 50 hectares. Very old paths are lined with ditches and ponds; a Way of the Cross with 14 stations also runs through the forest. This offers a choice between walks in the park and a religiously themed trail through the forest.

Hiking, Nature Watching, and Swimming

Ostbevern’s hiking trails are marked with yellow hiking-boot symbols. The trails through the Loburg and Schirl farming communities and the Spieker hiking route in Brock are considered easy and suitable for small children and nature watching. The Beaver hiking route has 21 hides. As the availability of individual hides can change, check ahead of time.

Another option is BEVERBAD, a combined indoor and outdoor swimming pool in Ostbevern. Check current operating conditions before your visit. When planning, you can weigh up trails and nature watching, cultural sites, and a swim, while keeping an eye on the relevant opening and operating conditions.
