In Ennigerloh, historic buildings meet audio experiences and cultural events. The listening islands convey local history through audio plays; St. James’s Church and the windmill offer insights into different chapters of local architectural history. There is also a cultural center with a range of event formats, as well as opportunities for active pursuits. You can tailor your stay to the themes that interest you most.

Church History and Windmill Technology

The older part of St. James’s Church is a Romanesque hall church. St. James’s was first mentioned as a parish in 1193. Its architectural form and early parish history offer two concrete points of entry if you want to get to know Ennigerloh through its historic buildings.

The Ennigerloh windmill offers a different perspective on architectural history and technology. It was built in 1869 as a Wallholländer windmill. Its walls are made of local rubble stone, and its cap can rotate. The mill has been a protected monument since 1984. There is also a bakehouse on the grounds, used for traditional wood-fired baking. Regular events include the Maypole and Mill Festival, German Mill Day and Open Monument Day. Check the dates before your trip if you want to combine your visit with one of these events.

Culture at the Alte Brennerei Schwake

The Alte Brennerei Schwake offers a different cultural focus, with cabaret, theater, music, poetry events and exhibitions on its program. The venue also houses two cinemas and the Oelde-Ennigerloh adult education center. An elevator enables barrier-free visits for people with reduced mobility. If you’re planning to attend a performance or exhibition, check the current program; you should also confirm that the elevator is working before your visit.

Listen to History and Get Active

The Lauschinseln audio tour introduces you to Ennigerloh’s history at twelve stops through informative and entertaining audio plays. The tour also includes a children’s rally with questions and puzzles at each stop. The audio plays and the rally have different focuses: one emphasizes historical insights, while the other invites you to take part at the stops. If you prefer a guided tour, Ennigerloh also offers tours that can be booked individually. Check booking availability again before your trip.

For a sporting activity, Ennigerloh has a publicly accessible dirt bike facility. It was built in 2024 and includes a 455-meter-long track on an area of around 3,800 square meters. As access conditions may change, check them before you arrive. For riders, a 34-kilometer section of the Münsterland riding route runs through Oelde and Ennigerloh and continues to Beelen. There are five riding and rest stations along this section. The facility and the riding route offer two clearly distinct ways to enjoy a more active stay.

The Region

Ennigerloh lies in the parkland of the southeastern Münsterland and is the geographic center of the district of Warendorf. The district has around 900 kilometers of signposted cycle paths in a junction-based network, made up of interconnected shorter circular routes. This regional context is separate from what Ennigerloh itself offers; if you’re planning a cycling tour in the district, check the latest route information.
