Oelde offers a variety of different themes: at Pott’s, you can follow the brewing process; an old watermill offers a glimpse into history; and in Stromberg, circular walking trails lead into nature reserves. During your stay, you can focus on brewery culture, local history, the mill experience or nature.
Pott’s: Brewing Process and Origins
On the outskirts of Oelde, visitors can follow the brewing process at Pott’s glass-enclosed brewery experience through large windows, from maturation to bottling; information panels provide additional insight. During operating hours, you can watch the brewers at work without booking in advance. Alternatively, visitors can take guided tours through all areas. This offers two distinct ways to experience the brewing process: observing it independently or joining a guided tour.
The fountain cinema at Pott’s brewery offers another highlight: a short film about Pott’s and its origins plays on a large, circular screen. This pairs a view of the brewery with a short film about its history. Those who want to follow the brewing process itself can do so through the large windows and information panels; the film offers a different format.
Local History: Two Ways to Explore
On a guided tour of Oelde, visitors learn about the town’s history and sights beneath the distinctive tower of St. Johannes. The kulTOUR Park offers a different way to explore: it starts at Vier-Jahreszeiten-Park, Konrad-Adenauer-Allee 20 in Oelde. The stops can be visited in any order.
The two options differ mainly in format: the guided tour focuses on Oelde’s history and sights, while the order of stops in the kulTOUR Park is flexible. The stated starting point provides a specific address for orientation; the freedom to choose the order lets you decide which stops to visit first.
Watermill and Digital Themes
In the historic section of the old watermill dating from 1726, visitors can step into the role of a miller. There are also interactive and digital themed areas covering topics from agriculture to food investigations. This offering brings together the historic role of the mill and themes featuring interactive and digital elements. Those interested in different ways of exploring agriculture and food will find more here than just the history of the mill building.
Stromberg: Nature, History and Events
In Stromberg, a district of Oelde, well-maintained circular walking trails lead through the Gaßbachtal into the Wennhage, Bergeler Wald and Limberger Forst nature reserves. The Historic Mile in Stromberg takes visitors to several different sites: the Alte Vikarie, St. George’s Chapel, a former tripoint, Münsterland farmhouses and the hilltop castle. This offers nature experiences and historical sights as distinct options.
The traditional Stromberg soapbox race is also held annually at the outdoor pool in the Gaßbachtal; it has taken place there since 2007. Event dates may vary. If you want to plan your stay around the race, check the specific date before travelling.
