Beckum can be explored through a range of themes: the 27-kilometre Cement Route runs by bike through the cement district, while the 14-kilometre Höxberg Panorama Circular Trail invites you to go hiking. There is also a medieval landmark, a geolocation-based city tour, the Pütt Days and a cable water-skiing facility. When planning your trip to Beckum, you can first weigh up industrial heritage, hiking, city history and water sports.

Cycling through the Cement District

The Beckum Cement Route is a scenic 27-kilometre circular cycling route through the Beckum cement district. It passes abandoned industrial heritage sites and landscape oases. At the same time, the route offers insights into cement production, both past and present. If you would like to combine cycling with industrial history, this circular route offers a clear thematic focus.

Hiking at Höxberg

The Höxberg Panorama Circular Trail is a 14-kilometre hiking route where you can experience Beckum’s natural and cultural landscape as well as its city history. It consists of two sections that can each be hiked separately: the approximately 8-kilometre “Höxberg Experience Trail” and the approximately 6-kilometre “Excursion to the Megalithic Tomb.” You can choose one section or hike the entire route. The trail is suitable for families but is not accessible; take both details into account when planning.

Compared with the Cement Route, the choice depends not only on the theme but also on how you get around: cycling the 27-kilometre circular route or hiking the 14-kilometre loop, which can be split into two sections. You can therefore base your choice on your preferred activity and—with the Höxberg Panorama Circular Trail—on the length of hike you want to do.

Discover the city’s history independently

The 23.30-metre-high Soestwarte stands on Höxberg. The tower is one of the last witnesses to the medieval city fortifications and defensive structures, and is one of Beckum’s landmarks. It offers a tangible historical point of interest alongside the routes through Beckum’s landscape.

The geolocation-based “Beckum AR City Tour” guides visitors to the city’s sights with the virtual mascot “Kater Murr” and lets them explore Beckum independently. If you would like to use this digital way of exploring, check the app’s current availability in advance.

City festival and water skiing

The Pütt Days take place every year over the weekend of the first Sunday in September as a city festival throughout Beckum’s city centre. The festival features a stage, market stalls, activities and food and drink. If you would like to include the Pütt Days in your travel plans, check the dates and programme for that year’s event.

The “TwinCable Beckum” cable water-skiing facility has been at Tuttenbrock leisure lake since July 2013. It is suitable for beginners and experts. As operator and facility details may change, check the latest information before your trip.
