Neubeckum offers a range of options for a stay: an outdoor pool with several swimming and play areas, a local cycling route, paved walking paths and a Neo-Gothic church. There is also a nature reserve south of Neubeckum.
Natural landscapes and walks
The Halbtrockenrasen nature reserve south of Neubeckum (WAF-039) covers around 8 hectares of gently undulating land at a former limestone quarry. In addition to open areas of semi-dry grassland, it includes various stages of natural succession, from scrub and young woodland to forest. Both open and more densely vegetated areas are therefore part of the landscape described; the site’s former use as a limestone quarry also shapes its character.
Paved paths along the wooded Hellbach and on the Harberg invite you to go for a walk. These walking routes are a separate option from the cycling route: here, the focus is on exploring on foot, while the Zementroute is for cyclists.
Cycling the Zementroute
The Zementroute Beckum is a 27-kilometre local cycling route connecting the districts of Beckum, Neubeckum, Roland and Vellern. Neubeckum is therefore one of the four districts on the route. Its stated length and connections to several districts make it easy to plan a ride.
In the wider Beckum destination, the Zementroute is also described as a scenic circular cycling route through the Beckum cement district. It offers insights into the history and present-day production of cement and passes abandoned industrial heritage sites as well as landscape oases. Cycling in Beckum thus combines industrial history and landscapes; this regional context complements the local route information for Neubeckum.
Leisure, festivals and architecture in Neubeckum
Neubeckum outdoor pool has a water surface of 1,200 square metres. Facilities include a six-lane swimming pool with diving towers, a non-swimmer pool with two slides, a paddling pool, a playground and space for ball games. There are activities for all sorts of visitors: swimming laps, sliding, splashing around and playing ball. The pool is an option if you want your stay to include swimming and play.
The Sonnenblumenfest Neubeckum is a family-friendly street festival for all ages and has been held annually since 2005. If you would like to plan your visit around the festival, check the dates for that year’s event in advance. The Evangelical Christuskirche in the Neubeckum district adds an architectural highlight: built between 1899 and 1900 in the Neo-Gothic style, it offers a point of interest for architecture enthusiasts.
More things to do in the wider Beckum destination
In the wider Beckum destination, the Höxberg Panorama Circular Trail is another hiking option. This 14-kilometre circular trail explores Beckum’s natural and cultural landscapes as well as the town’s history; it is suitable for families but is not wheelchair accessible. You can choose the approximately 8-kilometre Höxberg Experience Trail, the approximately 6-kilometre trip to the Großsteingrab megalithic tomb, or the full circular route. The sections can be walked separately and offer different distances.
The Pütt-Tage also take place in the wider Beckum destination: this town festival is held every year on the weekend of the first Sunday in September throughout Beckum’s town centre. The programme includes a stage, market stalls, activities and food and drink. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the dates and programme for that year’s event.
