Zeuthen offers several ways to enjoy a stay by the water and in nature: Zeuthen Lake, a trip on the “MS Olympia” and the Höllengrund Hiking Trail. The Chinese Garden and the “Alice in Wonderland” themed playground also add their own distinctive touches. You can choose what to do based on whether you’re looking for a water activity, a hike or a visit to a landscaped attraction.

By the water at Zeuthen Lake

Zeuthen Lake is a swimming-friendly widening of the Dahme and borders Zeuthen. It is used, among other things, for water sports, tourism and fishing. The lake is rated as having good water quality. Since such ratings are seasonal, check the latest assessment before swimming.

For a trip on the water, the passenger ship “MS Olympia” departs from the landing stage at Rathausplatz in Zeuthen on regular round trips through the lakes south of Berlin. The trips last between 1.5 and 5 hours. The waters mentioned include Schmöckwitzer Werder, the Großer Müggelsee and the Seddinsee. A boat trip is therefore an option in its own right if you’d like to spend a longer period on the water.

Boat trip or hike?

The Höllengrund as a natural landscape

The Höllengrund Hiking Trail leads from Zeuthen along Hankelweg, following in Fontane’s footsteps into the Höllengrund. The Höllengrund itself is a strikingly incised valley. The Ebbegraben winds through it in a nature reserve that provides a refuge for rare plants and animals. The trail is therefore shaped not only by the walking route, but also by a clearly defined landscape: the valley and watercourse form the hike’s destination.

Garden and themed playground

There are also different things to discover in Zeuthen beyond the hike and boat trips. The Chinese Garden is a relaxing spot by the lake. There, contemporary elements complement the symbolism of Chinese garden art. The “Alice in Wonderland” themed playground offers a different focus: its play equipment draws on various Wonderland motifs.

These places are quite different from the water-based and hiking activities. The garden combines its lakeside location with the symbolism of Chinese garden art, while the themed playground centers on Wonderland motifs. When planning, you can first decide whether you’d prefer an outing with a specified duration and distance, a trip through the lakes, or a visit to one of these landscaped attractions.
