Schlepzig can be explored through three main attractions: nature trails, local history at the farm museum and trips on the water. On foot, you can choose between circular trails and a nature trail; at the harbour, options vary by route and duration. This lets you decide whether to focus your stay on nature, history or the water.
Museum, Craftsmanship and Autumn Tradition
The Schlepzig Farm Museum explores the long-standing relationship between people and nature in the Spreewald. It presents farming and processing techniques that were common in the 19th century, including the traditional baking of bread and sheet cakes in a clay oven. Age-appropriate guided tours and hands-on activities in the buildings and in the outdoor grounds, which include a herb garden, round out the offer.
The Old Fire Station is now a small fire brigade museum; visits are available by request. A traditional fish demonstration or fishing event takes place at the Großer Inselteich on the Saturday of the last weekend in October. The date may be moved to the first weekend in November. Check the date before your trip.
Walking Trails
The Buchenhain circular trail from Schlepzig is two kilometres long, and the nature trail from Schlepzig is four kilometres long. The circular trail around the Großer Inselteich adds 3.5 kilometres to the circular trail around Schlepzig. The trails also differ in character: Buchenhain is described as a circular trail, the four-kilometre route as a nature trail, while the 3.5 kilometres refers to an extension of the Schlepzig circuit. This is an additional distance, not the total length of the circuit.
Harbours and Boat Trips
Schlepzig Harbour is the starting point for punt or paddleboat trips on a three-kilometre circular route through the Spreewald village. Großer Hafen Schlepzig is on the edge of the village, by the alder carr. The Classic Round Trip from Großer Hafen goes into the Hochwald and back through marshy meadows; it takes two hours. From the boathouse at Weidendom, you can explore the natural landscape around Schlepzig by paddleboat and canoe. Trips from Weidendom and the Classic Round Trip are seasonal; check the respective timetables or dates before your trip. The details answer different planning questions: the circular route specifies the distance, while the Classic Round Trip specifies the duration.
In the larger Dahme-Spreewald travel region
The Schlepzig Farm Museum is housed in a fully preserved ensemble of farm buildings dating from 1818. The faithfully furnished farmhouse presents the lives of small-scale farmers. Together with the farming and processing techniques on display, this shows both their living arrangements and their work in everyday farm life.
The larger Dahme-Spreewald travel region includes the Spreewald and the Dahme lake district; together, they form part of the travel region in the Dahme-Spreewald district. Visitors will find scenic, historical and cultural attractions there. More than 1,000 kilometres of well-maintained, fully signposted cycle paths connect landscapes and destinations in the Spreewald and the Dahme-Seenland. Check route conditions before setting out on a cycling tour.
