Höfen an der Enz is a choice for travelers who want to make forest and river the common thread of their getaway. The town lies in the Black Forest landscape and is crossed by the Enz. About 85 percent of the municipality’s 908 hectares are forested. There is also a hiking trail network of more than 36 kilometers, the Kur- und Heilweg with its themed stations, and the Bannwald-Schrat forest reserve. For planning, it helps to distinguish between a broad network of trails, a trail focused on nature themes, and the research trail, which is expressly intended for experienced hikers.

Hiking with different focuses

The hiking trail network in Höfen covers more than 36 kilometers and offers viewpoints as well as quiet, nature-oriented rest areas. When choosing a route, you can therefore consider not only the distance but also the views and opportunities for a peaceful break.

The Kur- und Heilweg starts at the outdoor swimming pool parking lot on Liebenzeller Straße. In the Förteltal, eight stations cover forest bathing, sensory experiences in nature, Kneipp water therapy and nature yoga. Its thematic focus sets it apart from simply following the trail network: here, the stations set the focus.

Bannwald-Schrat and the research trail

The Bannwald-Schrat covers 95 hectares in Höfen’s Northern Black Forest, between the Eyach and Enz. The forest reserve aims to protect the undisturbed development of typical Northern Black Forest forests. The research trail at Bannwald-Schrat is intended for experienced hikers and can only be walked in good weather. Check the weather and trail conditions locally before your visit.

The hiking options therefore differ in their focus: the trail network offers viewpoints and rest areas, the Kur- und Heilweg centers on eight themed stations, and the research trail requires experience and good weather. These differences can help you decide what kind of hiking to focus on during your stay.

Cycling and getting there

For cyclists, the Enztal Cycle Path offers a regional perspective. The continuously signposted route is about 115 kilometers long and connects the Northern Black Forest with the Neckar Valley. The route’s landscape includes forested mountains, bends in the river and valleys, as well as gentle hills and vineyards. This is on a different scale from the hiking trail network in Höfen: the cycle path connects larger landscapes, while the hiking trails here bring viewpoints and nature-oriented rest areas into focus.

The S6 connects Pforzheim, Neuenbürg, Höfen an der Enz and Bad Wildbad. Check the current timetable before traveling if you plan to use this connection to get there.

The Enz: landscape and history

The Enz also has a history of use: historical accounts describe sawn goods being floated down the river. As well as its place in today’s landscape, the Enz offers a glimpse into its former use as a transport route.
