Hiking, Kapf and landscapes in Egenhausen
The Nature Park AugenBlick Loop runs through Egenhausen, along the historic oak grove and past the oil mill; it then crosses open meadows on the way back to the starting point. The section through the village, named waypoints and return route across the meadows give the tour distinct stages. If you are looking for a hike with a variety of landscapes, this route offers a specific way to combine the village and open countryside in one loop.
For hikers who find the longer loop too long, there is a shorter AugenBlick Loop, measuring 6.5 km. You can therefore choose based on the distance you want to cover: the short loop is an explicitly shorter option. Another possibility is the Altensteig Nature Experience Trail, which passes through the Kapf, among other places. The “Egenhäuser Kapf” nature reserve lies between the Upper Gäu and the Black Forest plateau. The short loop and the Kapf thus offer different starting points for planning your hike. The route may change; check the current signage before setting out.
Playground and bus services
The playground in the residential area is designed for young children and offers various swings, spring riders, a zip line, a climbing frame and a sandbox. This provides a dedicated place for a play break in addition to the hiking trails. As facilities may change, check which play equipment is currently available before visiting, if needed.
Bus services run from Egenhausen to Altensteig and Nagold. If you want to include bus travel in your day’s plans, these two destinations are a concrete starting point for looking up suitable connections. Check the current timetable before travelling, as bus services may change.
More things to do in the wider Calw destination
The wider Calw destination offers more activities for a range of interests. On Nagold Castle Hill, the ruins of Hohennagold Castle still contain the foundations of various buildings in the castle’s inner ward, dating from the 12th century. This historical attraction differs from the hiking and landscape experiences in Egenhausen.
The network of trails in the wider Calw destination offers another planning option: in and around Calw, there is a wealth of well-signposted paths and routes for exploring the Black Forest Central/North Nature Park on foot. This provides broader guidance for the Calw area, while the Nature Park AugenBlick Loop and the route over the Kapf are specifically named options in the Egenhausen area.
In Schömberg, the barefoot park offers a course about 800 metres long, featuring more than 20 different materials. Its approximate length and variety of materials give it a different character from the hiking trails. The park operates seasonally; check whether it will be open during your visit before making plans. In Haiterbach, the nature trail offers children an accessible introduction to trees and their leaves, as well as the geology of the quarry. Visitors can also compare the jumping abilities of animals at the animal long-jump activity.
Culinary experiences complement the nature and cultural attractions in the wider Calw destination. The Backhausfest in Ebhausen takes place every year on the first weekend in May; as part of the programme, visitors can sample onion tart and wood-fired bread from the local bakehouses. Confirm the date for the relevant year before including the festival in your plans. At the coffee roastery in Calw, visitors can discover coffee with all their senses and learn the secrets of the coffee bean. As booking terms may change, check them in advance for your preferred dates.
