Amtoft offers two distinct focuses for planning a trip: the beach and the harbour. Amtoft Marina (Amtoft Lystbådehavn) is located in the Limfjord between Mors and Thy. Amtoft Beach is at Gårdbæk Hage, just south of Amtoft Vig. The options also differ in when they take place and what planning they require.
Amtoft Beach: location and facilities
The beach can be reached from Amtoftvej via Livøvej; Livøvej runs through the holiday-home area. The municipality classifies Amtoft as a beach with few facilities. Set your expectations accordingly and check which facilities are currently available before your visit. This gives you both a specific geographical reference point and an indication of the facilities for your planning.
Harbour activities from sailing to sauna
Amtoft Sailing Club (Amtoft Lystbådelaug) welcomes visiting sailors. The sauna at Amtoft Harbour offers an unobstructed view across the fjord; check the current status of the facility before visiting. ThyGourmet operates a workshop and a restaurant in the harbour. There is also a crab race track. This means there are different reasons to visit the harbour: sailing, a sauna visit, a restaurant visit or the race track. This variety helps you plan your time at the harbour around more than just one activity.
There is also a waterside shelter at Amtoft Harbour, provided by Thisted Municipality. The municipality’s waterside shelters can be booked by anyone. Each accommodates four people; a booking gives you access for 24 hours. The season runs from April to October. If you plan to use one of these shelters, take the season into account and check availability before travelling. This option is clearly distinct from a general visit to the harbour: using a waterside shelter requires a booking and travel during the appropriate period.
Kayaking, the TRIT route and surfing
The kayak leg from Amtoft to Søndergårds Mark starts at Amtoft Harbour and is four kilometres long. The route description was last updated on 8 September 2017; check the route details again on site. Another route description concerns the TRIT route: on day 10, it passes by the waterside shelter at Amtoft Harbour, and the leg is 25 kilometres long. The TRIT route is not official and is not signposted independently. The four kilometres therefore refer to the kayak leg, while the 25 kilometres refer to the TRIT leg. Compare these details as separate trips, not as different versions of the same route. Surfing is also possible at Amtoft Vig.
Planning your stay and accommodation search
The differences between the options matter. The beach has few facilities; the waterside shelters are seasonal and must be booked; and the kayak leg and the TRIT route each have their own route details. This way, you can search for hotels in Amtoft based on the trip you actually want to take, rather than treating all the options as similar activities.
