Hanklit rises up to 60 metres above the Limfjord; the moler cliff reveals a seabed almost 55 million years old. Paths run along the cliff and through the hilly landscape. On Mors, hikes take you through a landscape where the history of the Earth is visible.

Hiking between the fjord and moler

The 150-kilometre Kystruten på Mors runs along the Limfjord. It is divided into ten stages of roughly equal length; Nykøbing Mors is both the starting and finishing point of the route. If you are planning shorter hikes, there are loops and circular trails along the Kystruten that can be completed in one to three hours. This gives you a choice of different time frames without having to plan the entire coastal route for every outing.

Legind Bjerge is part of the larger geological area Det Tabte Land. It has hiking routes in natural surroundings, marked routes, nature interpretation tours and toilets. Salgjerhøj Rundt runs through a cliff landscape and a small cliff forest; Salgjerhøj offers scenic views. At 89 metres, it is Morsø’s highest point.

Fossils, harbours and legends

At the Fossil- og Molermuseet, you can see fossils of fish, birds, insects and plants dating back more than 55 million years. The collection of moler fossils is among the finest in the world. You can also explore the subject outdoors: visitors can search for fossils in the moler pits around the museum.

Ejerslev Havn was established in 1911 and has since been an important starting point for fishing and life on the Limfjord. In the lagoon, visitors can walk along the moler slopes and search for fossils. The harbour is described as a natural harbour where the sea, craftsmanship and nature come together.

Feggeklit is a distinctive moler formation in the Limfjord, shaped by time, wind and other natural forces. A local legend links the place to Hamlet, who is said to have avenged himself there on his evil stepfather, Kong Fegge. The legend offers a different way to experience the place than fossil hunting: the focus here is a traditional tale, not a historical account.

Museums and art in Nykøbing

Dueholm Kloster houses exhibitions in four historic buildings. They tell the story of Nykøbing’s development, Dueholm’s history as a monastery and manor house, prehistoric finds, and seafaring and fishing on and around the Limfjord near Mors. A children’s trail complements the exhibitions with hands-on activities based on their content.

Støberimuseet explores the history of the foundry through films, pictures and narrative-style exhibitions. Skulpturguide Mors has a different focus: the guided tour takes you to artworks, sculptures and public art in Nykøbing and across the island; local artists feature prominently. At Nykøbing Mors harbour, two different uses meet: it is both an active commercial harbour and a modern marina.

Nature experiences and practical information

At Skarregaard Nature and Culture Centre, paths lead through woodland and meadows. Traces of prehistoric life, burial mounds and historic structures bear witness to life over the centuries. The centre offers experiences for families, outdoor activities, and opportunities to walk and learn. At Sillerslev Strand, the shallow, calm water and Blue Flag status are further specific features for visitors; the water conditions are particularly suitable for families.

On the Østerssafari, participants wear waders into the Limfjord and search for Pacific and European oysters in the shallow water. Waders, buckets and nets in various sizes are provided; the safari also includes practical guidance on opening and preparing the oysters. To finish, participants enjoy the day’s catch as it is, accompanied by a glass of wine. Participation is seasonal; check the current dates when planning your visit.

Morsø Turistbureau offers bicycle hire for children and adults, help with routes, map books and cycling tour packages. The Feggesund ferry provides access to visitor experiences on both sides of the Limfjord, including attractions on Mors. If you are planning to cross, it is worth checking the current timetable.
