Shallow, calm water at Sillerslev Beach, a commercial and yacht harbour, and a coastal route along the fjord give Sillerslev several distinct features. The beach, harbour and coastline can be considered separately when planning your trip: they offer time for swimming, maritime harbour activities, and a route that continues past Sillerslev Harbour towards Ørding.
A beach with calm water and facilities
The beach has a bathing jetty, toilets, tables and benches, as well as a beach volleyball court. Sillerslev Beach is especially suitable for families with children and has been awarded the Blue Flag as a bathing site. Surfing is also possible there: the gentle waves are suitable, although conditions at the time will matter. If you are planning to use the facilities during your beach visit, check locally beforehand that they are still available as described; facilities may change.
Harbour and coastal route
Sillerslev Harbour serves as both a commercial harbour and a yacht harbour. Fresh mussels, oysters and other delicacies are also landed there directly from the Limfjord; landings may vary by season. Its commercial use and role as a yacht harbour give the place distinct maritime features, while the landings show another side of harbour operations.
The coastal route follows the fjord to Sillerslev Harbour. From there, it continues along the coast, leaves the beach and climbs via Skallevej to Ørding Kærvej, then continues to Ørding. So after the harbour, the route does not stay on the beach all the way. If you are considering possible alternatives on foot, bear in mind that coastal conditions can affect them. This gives you a more realistic sense of the section towards Ørding, rather than treating the entire route as a beachside walk.
Different shores at the beach and Sillerslev Øre
Along the eastern shore of Sillerslev Øre, the seabed drops away quickly, with deep water close to the shore. The often strong current and the changes between deep and shallow areas create good conditions for fish feeding there. This makes the stretch of shore quite different from the shallow, calm water at Sillerslev Beach. For anglers at the Øre, the depth, changing conditions and current are particularly important; the beach, in turn, is especially suitable for families with children because of its calm water.
Plan your arrival and accommodation search
There is roadside parking at the end of Gammel Færgevej. From there, the coast is a short walk away, and there are good opportunities for walks along the water. As access conditions may change, check locally before setting off.
You can tailor your search to the kind of trip that matters to you, without treating the different activities as a fixed itinerary. Even on a short stay, the beach, route and harbour do not need to play the same role: the key is deciding which of these aspects you want to focus on.
