A marked 22.4-kilometre hiking route runs between Skive and Sundsøre; other routes follow the harbour and coastline. North of the town is an eight-hectare nature area, and the historic Sundsøre Pakhus tells the story of the railway ferry. If you are looking for a hotel in Sundsøre, you can plan your days around your interests: hiking, nature, the harbour or local history.
Hiking trails between the fjord and the town
The Lavvanderuten of the Blue Walk is a marked 22.4-kilometre point-to-point hiking route between Skive and Sundsøre. It follows the Limfjord and passes coastal meadows and nutrient-poor grassland on the way to Sundsøre. As a route between two towns, it differs from the routes that lead back to Sundsøre. The Sundsøre hiking route starts at the car park on the headland just south of the ferry terminal, passes the harbour and follows the coast, returning via Hvalpsundvej. The Lille Thise Sti runs from Sundsøre Havn along the water to a nature area near Gl. Børsting and back to Sundsøre. A detour leads to a burial mound with a beautiful view over the Limfjord.
Nature north of Sundsøre
The nature area north of Sundsøre includes coastal meadows, a nutrient-rich fen and heathland. You may walk there as long as you respect nature and the grazing cattle. Sundsøre Odde offers good opportunities to spot seals. Check local conditions before making a dedicated trip to watch them.
Sundsøre Pakhus and the Lindormen legend
Sundsøre Pakhus is a historic warehouse dating from 1927. It was built as part of the freight station for the M/F Hvalpsund railway ferry. The freight wagons at the Pakhus house an unstaffed tourist information point about the area and the history of rail transport, transportation and freight traffic. A Lindormen sculpture made of oak in 2022 stands at Sundsøre Pakhus. According to local legend, the headland at Sundsøre is the Lindormen’s tail. In this way, the history of ferry freight traffic and a local tale offer different ways of exploring the town’s past.
