Glyngøre is situated on a peninsula surrounded by woodland and beach, almost in the middle of the Limfjord. The town combines a shallow beach with nature trails, a cultural centre and activities on the fjord. This mix is especially clear in the different ways to spend your time: by the water, getting active on the trails and learning about the area’s history. You can plan your days around your travel group’s interests without having to follow a fixed itinerary.
Beach and water in Glyngøre
Glyngøre Beach has held Blue Flag status since 1992. You can reach the beach from the harbour or via Durupvej; there are car parks at both access points. The water is shallow and the beach is family-friendly. Depending on the location, it is about 130 to 200 metres from the shore to a water depth of two metres. This range gives you an idea of how far the shallow area extends.
Between the beach and the harbour, you can use a sauna with sea views in the building called “Saltkassen”. Check the terms of use before your visit, as they may change. Another seasonal option is Glyngøre Vandpark: it is set up each year from early June to the end of August, about 50 metres off the coast on the north side of the harbour. Its features include a slide, an inflatable jumping pillow, a trampoline, a climbing wall and balance equipment. If you are planning to visit Vandpark, check the dates for the current season.
Walking and cycling routes
A marked walking route leads from the beach area through Halkhoved Plantation. The Salling Nature Trail offers another way to explore the area: this combined walking and cycling path follows the former Salling railway line. The 29-kilometre route runs from Skive to Glyngøre along the former railway track. The section from Glyngøre to Durup is designed as Planetstien.
The route details help distinguish between the two sections: the 29 kilometres refer to the route from Skive to Glyngøre, while Planetstien is the section between Glyngøre and Durup. Glyngøre is characterised by varied natural surroundings and numerous walking and cycling routes. The marked route through the plantation and the path along the former railway track offer two different ways to spend time outdoors.
Cultural centre and local history
Glyngøre Cultural Centre opened in 1990 in a former railway station building. It features exhibitions on the history of the area and has a permanent exhibition about the Salling railway, photographic equipment and fishing. The former railway line is therefore featured both at the cultural centre and as part of the Salling Nature Trail’s history. If you would like to include local history in your trip alongside the beach and nature trails, you’ll find a distinct cultural focus here.
Experience the Limfjord
In summer, the fjord at Glyngøre is used for sailing, kayaking and surfing. These activities offer a different focus from a day at the beach or on the nature trails: instead of the shore and land, the focus is on different ways to get active on the water. From the harbour, you can also reach many large and small ports on the Limfjord on a day trip. You can spend a day in Glyngøre at the beach, on a route on foot or by bike, or on the fjord; an excursion from the harbour offers another way to include the ports of the Limfjord in your plans.
