Tlumačov offers several clear reasons to stay: a protected stud farm, the Parish Church of St. Martin, a protected small pond and cycling routes with specific destinations. Consider whether cultural heritage, a carriage ride booked in advance or a cycling trip to Kroměříž should be the focus of your visit.

Cycling routes with different destinations

From Tlumačov, a family-friendly cycling trip of approximately 12 kilometres leads to Kroměříž. The route is flat and runs largely away from road traffic. It follows cycle paths and paved tracks, passes the Záhlinice ponds and goes through floodplain forests along the Morava River. Its length, profile and largely traffic-free route are specific features you can use to assess whether this tour suits your plans.

Another option is cycle route 5181, which follows the railway line through Tlumačov and continues towards Záhlinice. The two descriptions indicate different destinations. So, before setting off, compare them to see which destination suits you; exact route conditions may change.

Tlumačov Stud Farm: Historic Complex and Activities

Tlumačov Stud Farm is an important technical monument. It originated as an 18th-century farmstead that was converted into a stud farm. Its form from the beginning of the 20th century has been largely preserved. The complex is arranged around two large courtyards; the entire complex, including its significant buildings, was declared a cultural monument on 15 July 2011. Along with the stud farm’s present-day appearance, its courtyards and history of conversion offer a tangible record of its historical development.

Public guided tours take visitors through the historic stables and buildings that are part of the cultural monument; advance booking is required. The stud farm also offers carriage rides of approximately 60 minutes, which must be booked in advance. The tours and rides are different ways to experience the stud farm. Book in advance and allow for the approximate duration of the carriage ride when planning.

Parish Church of St. Martin in the Town Centre

The Parish Church of St. Martin of Tours and Sabaria stands in the centre of Tlumačov on the main road. Its origins are generally dated to the reign of Wenceslaus I (1230–1253), or to the second quarter of the 13th century. It may have been built in the period following the Mongol invasion of Moravia, that is, after 1241. This is a historical possibility, not a confirmed date.

The church received a tower in 1585. After a fire in 1691, it was restored as early as 1695. Architecturally, the complex is defined by its recessed rectangular presbytery and the massive bell tower on the west façade. A stone Baroque crucifix stands in front of the entrance. Here, you can take in different aspects in one place: the church’s eventful building history, its architectural form and a single detail at the entrance.

Tlumačovská tůňka and its Biodiversity

Tlumačovská tůňka is on the western edge of Tlumačov, to the right of the road to Kvasice. The pond and its immediate surroundings serve as a breeding area for the edible frog, marsh frog, common toad, European tree frog, fire-bellied toad and grass snake. Conservation efforts also focus on endangered and nationally protected amphibian species, as well as threatened species of freshwater algae and cyanobacteria. Visitors interested in nature and species conservation will find a specific point of interest here, distinct from the town’s historic buildings.
