Provodov is located in Luhačovické Zálesà and the Vizovice Highlands. Small forests, pastures and fields shape the hilly surroundings. The history of the village and its surroundings can be explored through pilgrimage sites, castle ruins and individual listed buildings. You can view different traces of regional history rather than focusing on just one type of building.
Pilgrimage Church and Seasonal Guided Tours
The Church of Panny Marie Sněžné near Provodov is a listed cultural monument and has been an important pilgrimage site in the region since the 18th century. It can be visited on a guided tour from May to September. Visiting hours are Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00, and Sundays from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 15:30 to 17:00. A guide is available during opening hours. As seasonal visiting hours may change, check the schedule before your visit.
Malenisko and the Brda Ridge
The pilgrimage site of Malenisko lies about one kilometre southeast of Provodov, on the slope of the Brda Ridge in the Vizovice Highlands. A chapel built in 1865 stands beside the church. You can drink the local spring water there; the spring is beneath the church altar. A steep Stations of the Cross path leads from the chapel to the top of the ridge. This makes Malenisko quite different from the historic castle sites: the pilgrimage site, chapel and spring water are just as much part of the visit as the climb. The steepness of the Stations of the Cross path should be taken into account when planning your visit.
Two Castle Ruins with Different Traces
South of Provodov, the castle ruin of Rýsov stands on a promontory. The castle dates back to the 13th century. Its surviving features include a neck ditch and rampart, as well as an acropolis with rocky outcrops. Traces of the anchoring of wooden structures can be seen on the rocks. The castle is mentioned only once in writing, in 1517; even then, it was described as abandoned. The visible remains thus sit alongside an early written account of the castle’s condition at the time.
Another medieval site is StarĂ˝ SvÄ›tlov, a castle ruin dating from the 14th century. It is located in neighbouring PodhradĂ, but is historically considered a monument of Provodov. The complex includes a surviving core, remains of masonry buildings, an outer bailey, extensive earthworks and an outlying bastion. From the Church of Panny Marie SněžnĂ©, you can reach the ruin on foot via a green-marked hiking trail and a forest path. The route is not suitable for pushchairs.
Buildings and a Natural Monument
Komora u č.p. 38 is a two-storey masonry chamber with a wooden porch and is a listed cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This type of building was once typical of residential houses in the Luhačovské Zálesà area. The building can also be viewed in the context of regional residential architecture. The village square is also home to a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1774, which is also a listed cultural monument. The chamber and statue illustrate two different forms of local architectural heritage.
Čertův kámen offers a natural attraction: the rock formation has numerous depressions, grooves and cracks, as well as reddish areas. An information board at the rock formation describes the site and its legend. This adds a look at a striking natural formation and the tradition associated with it to the history of buildings and ruins.
